What does HSOC stand for anyway?
I've never heard of that before either, I asked and it stands for Highway Safety Operations Center, nobody in here knows much about what they do specifically. One of the Troops said they do intelligence type work but still doesn't know much.

I looked it up via the link that nd5y gave and the HSOC is a stationary center that collects info like HPD's Command Center. 8Hxx units are definitely detectives and I believe RETLE was right when he said they're Rangers, which is what I always though they were in the first place. I heard an 8Hxx unit doing surveillance and recovering a stolen vehicle on Houston DPS the other day, and I hear them on DPS channels around the state. They're definitely mobile and not some kind of stationary command center.

Well you all inspired me to pull up my Unitrunker logs and see what I had logged in the 5m series RIDs . I have several 8000 units logged in the 5m RIDs and all are on the NTIRN INTEROP talkgroups, usually associated with other TxDPS CLE units. Usually working a surveillance or other fugitive task force operation. Hope this narrows it down some.

8000 units are definitely CID. The controversy is swirling around what 8Hxx units are. RETLE and I say they're Rangers. I'm almost sure that's what they are. 8000 units and 8Hxx units operate statewide, and I've heard them on DPS channels all over the state.

I just noticed that TG3522 and TG3525 are simulcast and cross patched. I've also occasionally heard 155.4675 with DPS traffic.

Yes that is the Parks and wildlife, hear them on a regular out of DPS El Paso on the GATTRS net... Although they call them Parks and Wildlife here.

That is great that you can hear DPS El Paso in McCamey. I am in Van Horn. I also hear Parks and Wildlife on the VHF Repeaters in this area. Which GATTRS talk groups are you hearing them on? What trunk sites? Are you able to monitor any of the DPS VHF repeaters in your area?

Here and there
Most dps el paso traffic occurs on the el paso county city trs. Only traffic I've heard on el paso vhf is outside the county itself.

I am monitoring the King Mountain repeater when I'm home but i switch to the Odessa repeater when I travel there, i keep the talk groups open so I can catch unknowns

Just wanted to mention that I occasionally hear AG units on DPs which are obviously Attorney General units. To clarify what I said in a previous post, FMxx units are state fire marshals.

So, another Capitol Division question. TG 3525 is listed in the DB as Capitol Patrol. That's pretty straight forward. I also hear traffic on 3526 which the DB has listed as "Capitol Police Division."

What's the difference between the two?

I think the police division is the one that provide security inside the buildings in the capitol complex and the patrol is responsible for everything outside the building in the complex, grounds and traffic patrols ect.
I'm sure if that is not correct someone will be along to correct it.

Thanks for the reply.

The use of "Police" still baffles me and I wonder if their radios have different Alpha Tagging.

Not that it really matters.

My guess would be that it goes back to when there was an independent Capitol Police Department
DPS took over in the 1990s from the General Services Division who ran the Capitol Police.
A lot of the Capitol Police officers were retired DPS troopers, so at least they were already familiar with
how DPS operated.
Probably just use Police as a good way to seperate the roles Police (inside) Patrol (outside), but that is just a guess.

Sounds reasonable, although I don't remember if when the first version of the trunk system went on line. That only matters if that TG existed before they were merged in with Troopers. For that matter it only matters to me. ;)

You are correct about that. Capitol Patrol also patrols the area around the Capitol where other govt buildings are, the Governor's Mansion, etc. If you just listen to those two channels you'll figure that out pretty quick
