RE: SDR# : Do make sure and turn off the filtering. Do experiment with filter width (even though filtering is off). There are sweet spots for better decode. I usually move around between 12.5 and 16 khz.

RE: TRBO : Not necessarily. If you tune to an active TRBO freq and it CONSTANTLY says you have voice frames, then you need to invert. That means if you were using the -xr switch, don't, and that if you weren't using the -xr switch, do. I'm not sure a privacy-enabled TRBO signal will even produce any audio.

I always preach about CPUs. If you're going to use DSD (especially along with SDR software and VAC), it will perform much better on a beefy machine (I5/I7 with hyperthreading). So basically a multicore hyperthreading processor of recent vintage will give you the best performance. A Pentium D 2.8 HT doesn't cut it. A Core 2 Duo T5750 doesn't cut it. Anything less than those two certainly doesn't cut it. Basically when CPU maxes out during decode, you end up with a lot of choppiness. Hey, I encourage anyone who wants to run anything less to do so, but they shouldn't expect much.

Mike

WRONG. I run exactly what you say, a Pentium D 2.8 and it decodes fine, consistently, for even 1 minute of voice. My Core i7-2720QM with 12GB or RAM doesn't do any better job.

Yes, privacy DMR does produce audio, but garbled none-the-less.

what worked for me: go into the cygwin folder, find cygwin1.dll, copy it out, and slap it into the same folder as DSD.

Put it in any folder listed in your environment path. Usually c:\windows\system32 is the best place.

Command Prompt
echo %path%

Ok, so I'm' wrong. Please do encourage everyone to run DSD and / or SDR software on a 386 if it makes you feel good.

The windows port of DSD uses which ever sound card that is set as default recoding device. Go into the Control panel, then in 'Sounds and Audio Devices'. Under the Audio tab, Look for 'Sound recording'. It cannot be done from the command line. Depending on the version you're using, you may not have to use the '-o /dev/dsp'.

Further Assistance

I have downloaded the program and am seeing some scrolling. Below is a screenshot of what I am seeing. I cannot hear anything, on a MOTOTRBO or P25 conventional channel. I know for a fact the one P25 channel is in the clear. I hear the static in the computer speakers, but when the transmissions begin, the static goes quiet and I hear nothing from the speakers or the program.

The screen grab shows some decode is going on. The NAC suggests (sometimes DSD gets it wrong) TRPD1enc which DSD 160 will mute or Lacey PD2 - not much P25 traffic. If you have not looked in your Volume Mixer open it check DSD slider is adjusted/unmuted.

newbie here, read about 5 pages and decided to ask for help. Have not been able to download the dsd software from that minus.com site. I see from comments on that site that others have trouble too. No matter what link I click on even in authors profile all I get is a page of endless pictures and was not able to register. Is there another download or can someone upload the file to cnet?

try "dsd160" or whatever version you are using.

And run cmd as "administrator".
