I have a feeling (at least in the large metro areas) that BAKER is used because BOY is not politically correct...... snip...
Interestingly though, here in Colorado, some of our PDs and SOs, use BAKER instead of BOY only when they are referring to a two-man unit's call sign. ...snip ...

That could be. I just know that Indy was BOY for many years and now it is BAKER.I dunno, some folks posting here seem to be from large cities (like me) and it's Boy, not Baker in NYC!
Our local pd switched from boy to bravo for exactly that reason.
The Indianapolis Children's Museum uses "Code Adam" for a lost/missing child.
