We have a customer who has the following On Board Channels. He would like a Repeater installed so he can cover his Engine Room, with Channel 2.

Does Anyone know what frequency pair I am allowed to use to repeat channel 2 on board?

CH Frequency

1 457.525 MHz
2 457.550 MHz
3 457.575 MHz
4 457.600 MHz
5 467.750 MHz
6 467.775 MHz
7 467.800 MHz
8 467.825 MHz
9 467.850 MHz
10 467.875 MHz
11 469.900 MHz
12 467.925 MHz

Well, you CAN'T use 467.550 as it is the GMRS input channel for 462.550... I'd go with Joe on this and say 467.775, I've seen certain ship board repeaters setup for that.

If you can program your own radios, just pick one of the 467.***'s listed, program it with a TPL or DPL different that what you are using conventional, and make it the input to the repeater. Never be afraid to use the same frequency with different PL's for different working groups. That's the purpose of PL's.

Most UHF repeaters use a +5 MHz input, so I would have the repeater output on 452.550. Set up the portable to tx on 457 and rx on 452. Standard duplexers are available for 5 MHz splits, anything else would require a re-tune. If you're not using a repeater then I guess go ahead and use the 10 MHz offset, but you will need to seperate the tx/rx antennas to reduce de-sensing.

There are no repeater output channels on the list. Also, repeater stations have to be licensed as such. Your client needs to obtain another license or add a repeater pair to the existing license.

Oops. Didn't know about the low-power onboard repeater rule. My bad.

What is the current channel plan on board?

Are they already using a Repeater on Ch.1?

If your going to use Ch. 1-4 as a Repeater output your inputs would
then be restricted to Ch. 5-8 as inputs.

I think before we give any more advice we should decide on our consulting fees. The OP said that this was for a "customer" - I'm sort of disturbed that someone who is supposedly in the business of two-way communications has to resort to a hobbyist BBS to find out things they should know or be able to discover on their own.

While I agree in principle, why do you assume he is in the radio business.
He could be in some part of the boat/marine supply business.

Good point. However, if he is in any sort of business, he should have some better ways of serving customers than asking for help from strangers on the Internet.

Considering he has not replied to posted mail
or Direct mail...makes one wonder.
