DX-394 Dial

I have a question about the tuning knob on a DX-394. Has anyone everyone heard of it only tuning one direction regardless of which way the knob is turned? If so what was the problem and the fix?

Sounds like a dirty encoder... Tried doing a reset though? Little hole at the back of the set marked reset? Poke it with something

I tried that but still no luck. Is there a way to clean or repair the encoder if that is the problem?
