Tom - that is exactly the item that I was looking for. I found it last night but lost it. Did you notice the mention of "100+ initial attack zones"? There is also mention of "initial attack communications zones". Radio Reference might have to transition to this concept to keep pace with the federal and state wildfire agencys.

Apparently the initial attack zones are what is shown on the map on p. 24 of the .pdf you posted in the first post in this thread.

i agree that the ag channel zones do probably equate to the initial attack zones for the most part

the most recent radio user manuals that i have seen indicate that there are multi banks of 16 channels each in the radios - the banks usually include all the channels relevant to 1 admin unit

(I just hit the wrong button and lost my edit - damn)

Each local dispatch center seems to have their own radio plan now. There will be 2 or 3 AG freqs and 2 or 3 tac channels that are used by each specific local dispatch center. They can be a combination of federal, state, and local freqs. Various radio zones include various repeaters. The various radio zones can be based on geographical areas, or adminstrative units.

The dispatch maps posted by exsmokey on 5/27/2012 are probably the same as the 'AG zones' and the 'initial attack zones" and the "initial attack communications zones".

The million dollar question is - is it worth it to start marking up those dispatch maps with repeater locations and frequencys? Will anyone on Radio Ref ever use the info? Can it be used by a HP1? Is the present info at Radio Reference good enough?

I haven't done a comparison between what is on the map on page 24 and a map of the dispatch areas or zones for each GACC. The Nevada, Utah, Oregon and Washington dispatch area map matches the air to ground, air to air frequency maps. The only GACC where this is not the case is in California with its relatively small and numerous dispatch areas.

It makes sense that initial attack aviation frequency use be based on dispatch areas as the approval of frequencies for initial attack is: dispatch center-GACC-NIFC. Some other zone arrangement would not follow this line.

zerg, I was laid up recovering from surgery in February and March. I was a captive audience as far as surfing the net to find the types of documents you post. I know how time consuming it can be. Thanks for finding these little gems!
