Hi All,

I was wondering what are good aircraft frequencies for eastern PA, I live about 30 miles west of Philadelphia.

I usually listen to railroads and Montco Police/Fire/EMS but thought I might like hearing airplanes as well.

Any help will be appreciated.

Look for freqs in the database for Washington Center, which is the routing facility in your area. You will hear the planes very clearly because they are at high altitudes, but chances are you won't be able to hear the air traffic controller.

I too am in your general area (eastern PA). Try www.airnav.com and click on airports. Browse by state. You will find airports like N99 (Brandywine apt in W.Chester, PA) and KPHL for Philly. Listed in these airport directories are the active frequencies. Remember that aircraft freq's are AM, not FM mode. KCChiefs9690 is also correct that the conversations will be mostly one way. You will here the aircraft but not the controllers. One exception to try in our area is the NY center on 135.450. You can hear both controller and aircraft.

Two more places to look for info and freqs are the MilAir thread on the Maryland forum http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?p=241645#post241645 because alot of the planes from MD, A-10 specifically make routine trips up to the ranges in PA. You will also hear tankers for refueling. The other place to look is the Wiki page for MilAir. It will give you a glossary of terms you may not know as well as freqs and links to other freq sources.

Hello,

Also by reading the MD MilAir thread you will see there is Milair activity from Willow Grove, which is located north of Philly.

I did some brief listening to New York Center and Philly Approach frequencies while down in Kulpsville. Very Busy.

Final Vectors Two - 132.67 - Runs the 35 final and the 27L final when the SAPR2 is in effect.
North Arrival 128.4 - Feeds arrivals from BUNTS 1 /BOJID 1 and SLATT1/SPUDS1 Arrivals in the north to Final Vectors.

Yardley Satellite 123.8 - Provides service for mainly TTN and PNE
Pottstown Satellite 126.85 - Provides service to LOM, and PTW
Dupont Satellite 118.35 - Rarely open
Woodstown Satellite 127.35 - Provides service to ILG
South High 125.12 - A high level departure, rarely open
North High 126.07 - A high level departure also doubles as arrival sector for TEB aircraft on the JAIKE1 Arrival transitioning from ZDC shelves to N90. Open on busy evenings and when staffing levels enable it.

I hate opening old threads, but figured someone might find the info useful.

Yes, Eric, myself and about 150 others were just at the Winter SWL Fest.
You are welcome to join us for the 20th Anniversary fest next year and you don't
have far to travel like we do. ;)
