It was my understanding that Uniden was sending out replacement batteries for the SDS100. when I registered my scanner I was informed I would be getting a new battery to replace the one that came with the scanner. Has anyone else got a message like this?

Correct but only when they get the batteries to ship to us. We just have to wait.

Does anyone know if the one being sold on Amazon includes the replacement "battery cover" for the SDS100?

Also, does anyone know when Uniden plans to ship replacement battery and battery cover to owner that purchased the SDS100 when it first became available?

There are currently 4 listings on the internet for the EBC100 external battery charger (only 4 listings that I have seen to date) and none of them mention including the battery cover for the larger battery.

1. Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Uniden-EBC100-Accessory-External-Handheld/dp/B07GFQYSH6

2. Scanner Master: https://www.scannermaster.com/Uniden_Bearcat_Battery_Charger_kit_for_SDS100_p/10-591993.htm

3. Universal Radio: https://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/scanners/65686100.html

4. Uniden: https://www.uniden.com/shop/communication/radio-scanner-accessories/ebc100/

Uniden EBC100 Charger $7.05 after Amazon $50 Credit

For those looking for a bargain price for the new EBC100 charger with the new larger battery included, I found a deal on Amazon that I thought I would pass along. If you don't currently have an Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card and apply for one and get approved during checkout, Amazon will take $50 off of the price of your order instantly.

The current price of the EBC100 charger at Amazon is $57.05 so your price with the $50 Amazon credit for getting the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card will be $7.05 with FREE shipping included: https://www.amazon.com/Uniden-EBC100-Accessory-External-Handheld/dp/B07GFQYSH6

Direct link to the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card information: https://www.amazon.com/gp/cobrandcard/marketing.html

So this isn’t a drop in charger like my Ham radio HT units have where all I need to do is sit the entire radio in the charging cradle? The battery needs to come off the radio and be placed in the charger? Boy this really sucks.

I believe it's designed for use with an extra battery. If you want to charge the battery while it's still in the scanner, well, Uniden provided for that, too. It came with the radio.

But you're right. A drop-in charger for the scanner would be better.

It's a shame Uniden did not design the new large battery door with contacts for a true drop in charger ability. That would have been the time to do that.
I also wonder how reliable this arrangement will be with two pieces of foam keeping pressure on the battery pack so it keeps a firm connection to the battery contacts on the radio's pcb. I can see this as a point of failure as the foam naturally compress's over time. At least replacing the foam will be an easy fix if a problem does develop with poor power connections.
If the foam is removed or compressed, are the contacts springs enough to maintain a solid electrical connection? With the current this radio draws, I can see the need for a solid connection being needed so you don't start seeing voltage drop as resistance increases. This arrangement just seems rather poor in my eyes but will hopefully work okay for a long time.

The latch that keeps the battery compartment door closed and latched seems to be pretty solid so that will probably last a decent amount of time for most users, especially those that never remove the battery for external charging.
Have they improved upon the SD card socket in the SDS100 over the flimsy socket the 436HP used?
I have an SDS100 but have never needed to remove the SD card.
When I finally sent my 436 in for the RTC fix, I darn near destroyed the SD cards mechanical parts when trying to remove the card before shipping. The whole card carrier separated from the rest of the socket when I finally got it open but I was able to get it all back together. I guess this would not have been an issue as that socket is a part of the PCB that was replaced but the new one received with the repaired radio was of no better quality than the one I'd sent in. I still had a hard time getting the SD card slid back into the hatch. I think they would have been better off using a spring loaded socket similar to the socket used in the HP1 even though those push to release spring loaded sockets also fail. They just seem to be a bit more robust.

I guess my biggest concern with this SDS100 external charger will be the longevity of the foam that keeps the battery tight to the contacts when in the radio.
I wonder what the EBC100 charger base uses to keep spare batteries tight to its contacts? Does it simply use the weight of the battery or is there some type of retention mechanism that keeps the battery tight? I could not really tell from any of the pictures.
