• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Just curious as to what software is used to program an edacs system. (Add/edit talk groups, viewing radio LID's on the system, ect)

Adding a Site Controller to an EDACS trunked
system enhances the feature set. The Site Controller
performs all the database-related features such as call
validation and activity logging as well as provides the
high-level features such as dynamic regroup and unit
enable/disable. The Site Controller receives the sys
-
tem database from the Communications Systems
Director (CSD). In the event that a CSD is not
purchased, the Site Controller references a custom
default database. An Advanced Digital Power
Monitor System; a Test, Alarm, and Control
System; and Guardog ™can be ordered as options
for the Site Controller.

In the near future, for a minimal expenditure of money, you'll be able to own your very own complete EDACS system for practically pennies, and explore it to your heart's content.

In fact, you can acquire entire systems for a matter of just hundreds of dollars today. Obviously, with
the death of EDACS due in less than two years from now, most of the systems are well on the way to retirement, some are already retired, and the value of what's on the used market is pretty much "scrap by the pound" and will get lower.

sorry to bring alive an old dead thread. I was just reading back through and remembered that when I worked in 911 Dispatch, My sergeant would go back where the radio's were and get on a computer when a new talkgroup or radio LID needed to be added or changed to an officers alias. Just curious to what this software is. I'm in no way interested in owning an EDACS system, just curious is all.

The original edition of the EDACS system manager ran on a Digital Equipment Corporation VAX mainframe computer. After a number of years I believe they updated the technology so it could run off a PC. I've never seen a copy in the wild.

It WOULD be an interesting piece of software to have as a novelty. I'm sure that you'll be able to get a copy of it after the last EDACS system is turned off next year.

Here's the manual that tells you how to operate the system manager:

I agree, it would be an interesting novelty! do you know if the C3 Maestro software was ever released outside of them? or is that something that you could only get ahold of by purchasing the whole console setup?

I have C3 Maestro software. On original discs.

It's pretty much useless without a C3 Maestro console.

I don't think it was designed to run "part time", it becomes the dedicated application.

Want it? I doubt anybody would care if I sent you a copy of it.

I'll have to look for more but I found the original M/A-Com CDs for CSD radio control and CSD client. Useless to me other than as novelties.

I will have to look in my box of ancient history for the C3 disk, which I'm FAIRLY sure I have.
