On Aril 10, 2010 at approximately 1:09 am, state troopers were dispatched to a rollover crash involving two fatalities on Highway 24, approximately one mile west of Calhan, Colorado.
Troopers have been able to determine that a blue, 2003 GMC pickup was traveling eastbound on Highway 24 when the vehicle went off of the right side of the road in a left-hand curve. The pickup rolled several times ejecting the driver, 30-year-old Jonlyn Mansfield of Peyton, Colorado. Both the driver and passenger, 12-year-old Dustin Mansfield, also of Peyton, were pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.
The investigation is on-going, however, speed and the possibility of the driver having fallen asleep at the wheel are being investigated as to the role they may have played in the crash.
