Has anyone heard if the S.O. has gone live with their digital? My source told me they were supposed to have launched it on the 16th but I haven't heard anything. Thanks.
On occasion I hear what sounds like a control channel on the sheriff's strike force channel. Its not always active, but I here it once in a while, 155.310. Its not very loud but sounds distant.
I haven't heard a peep on analog. I'm on the outer fringe of the repeater so it comes and goes when it does skip over. Haven't heard anything. A friend of mine said he noticed a deputy carrying a apx portable last time he passed through with the usual surveillance ear piece and fancy commander style mic.
Passed through El paso county without doubt there no longer using the vhf conventional. I don't have ability phase 2 but I did put the new freqs in and was getting the digital garbled transmissions from time to time and a control control. Was scanning with a basic scanner.
Yeah I heard the one day what I thought was digital modulation on the one freq listed as freq Id 1. Then nothing since. I use to hear analog well where I am some spotty but static. I'll try to sometime this weekend start scanning vhf and if I catch any digital modulation I'll throw it in a couple radios with the csq in digital see if it comes through. I wonder also if they got into talkgroups with the city system and plan to use vhf in outer areas. Being there getting apx radios i hear anything is possible. I'll see if I can dig anything up in fcc also.
Not sure why the 2 times I didn't hear anything. Even was using a astro spectra 110watt to rx and nothing but dps and surrounding communities. Hmm interesting.
The first 6 are on ground level towers. You might not be able to hear it that far outside the county. The next four are on Mt.Franklin. You should be able to hear them a long ways to the east and west unless they are using antennas with a downtilt pattern but the mountain is probably blocking the signal to the north. The last two are on Mt.Franklin but licensed as FB2 instead of FB8 so they might not be part of the trunked system. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?fccCallsign=WQUM329 http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?fccCallsign=WQUM417
Looks like they found full use of the phase 2 and E. I recall hearing they were big on that with the border star program and city of elp was suppose to follow suit in time with fire and pd for securing. Hopefully it was just the annex and a side channel you caught.
Unsure if related but I know the communications is handled by the regional dispatch authority in El paso. On the elpasocounty911 site under April 2014 it has a pdf listing Anthony and horizon approved by county commission to purchase new p25 consoles for interop within county. Found another document for those interested at the city of El paso site in muni clerk for the city to move forward with equipment dual band vhf and 700 so they can have communications in vehicles officer to county officer. Looks like pd will join phase 2 in 700 sometime down road not too far. Double hit on local tax payers since they just paid for a phase 1 system and xts/l equipment within less then 2 years. Lol ouch.
What a waste of $$$ for the city of El Paso. Their current phase I system sounds fine, Hopefully people in the city administration will look at this unnecessary cost and not get conned by Motorola.
What's interesting is the document said the one commissioner was former El paso police chief and is for it and past upgrades. He was for the county full upgrade. One news article sheriff's staff said the analog system met mandates the other said dead zones then another says it was scratchy but readable. What's interesting is of you watch the old video El paso times had the deputy was turning the radio knob off while keying up. Even if he didn't hit a repeater the unit would still pull the portable through being close. And the cheap mics I'm sure didn't help. It's funny they couldn't get a signal north but daso and eddy could hit them on state line interops. They did need upgrade the so prob went about it right waiting last minute to acquire it all and go full modern. But looks like the city fell into the sale con buy this upgrade year later. Another document I ran into last night said one concern was securing the el paso region comms due to border violence and organized crime. I'll find the links and post this evening.
