Atlanta metro area is NOT the model for much of anything to the rest of us who live in Georgia. For example, Bulloch county has a county-wide 800 MHz NFM MOT system with all 7 fire departments; the GSP post; the S.O.; the city PD; the University PD; the EMA, the hospital; the AirEvac helicoptor; Prison, the Jail, the coroner; the EMS and about everyone else you can think of with a disptach (Bulloch Central) has enough capacity to do contract dispatcing for two smaller nearby counties on links to their systems.

The only encrypted communicaitons of which I am aware are: the local FBI office here; the local GBI regional headquarters here; the local SWAT team when activated; and two drug suppression talk groups.

The land of broken calculators.
Cops have ZERO choice when it comes to communications equipment. Its just another piece of equipment they are issued and told to use. They don't choose encryption, they usually have no clue how their radio system is built or how it works.

Lets stop bashing cops who have no say over how their radio system works. In almost every case the final say is with politicians elected by their local constituents.

It seems like the sheriff or chief of police decides if they'll go encrypted or not.

How have I arrived at that conclusion?

This is how...

I second that, all encryption is going to do is satisfy their power trip. They need at least one TG encrypted so they can talk doughnuts, ever watch Cops on TV how at the end of a scene they are always standing around foaming at the mouth about how it all went down, this one did this and that one did that, you know they have to have an encrypted TG to where they can do that. I live down the road from a fire station if I wanted to defeat your encryption I would just follow the fire truck, until another power trip leads to installing silent sirens, they get dispatched to everything that goes on.

i just had too layght but its true i live in cedartown everything but dispatch you cannot hear ther e usenpluse 1 from what i heard the disp. say this am i dont go out or get in the way but when there bad stuff going on as a tax payer i have the right too know but as they say one bad apple spoils it for everyone else
