I am going to be installing a 80 ft end fed antenna in my yard. The wire will run from my house to a pole 20 feet high. The wire will need to run partially through tree branch’s. Will this harm the receiving ability?

Thanks
Steve

For transmitting you may see a change in VSWR. I have an 80m MyAntennas that runs through some dense trees in eastern MA with the wire touching a few branches and it affected the SWR slightly. It gets worse in the summer when the foliage is thick. You probably wont notice any difference in receive, just changes in VSWR with an antenna analyzer.

Another quick question, is lightning protection recommended or just a good ground at the balun?
