• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

MTN-0083-25 CPS/RM Model Specific Limits on Firmware Update (SR2025.1 / R36)

Radio models that have reached their end-of-support date will be prevented from upgrading their firmware past a specified version. Affected radio models will be designated a final firmware version which corresponds to a baseline release. These end-of-support devices will hereby be blocked from upgrading beyond that final firmware version.

In this case, the affected models are listed below and the designated final firmware version for the affected models is the SR2025.1 (R36.XX.XX) baseline release (or any future MR releases based upon SR2025.1 that are applicable to the affected models). This will not impact the ability to manage affected radios with current or future versions of CPS/RM. One can still use CPS/RM to manage the codeplug/template of an affected radio, however, one cannot upgrade affected products to a firmware version beyond the SR2025.1 (R36.XX.XX) baseline release (or any future MR releases based upon that release that are applicable to the affected models).
Affected radio models (please see Appendix A for detailed list):
● APX 6000 / APX 6000XE / SRX 2200 / APX 5000 AN portable models (including 6000Li AN models)
● APX 7000 / 7000XE portable models
● APX 7500 single band and dual band mid and high power mobile models

The SR2025.1 (R36.XX.XX) baseline release (or any future MR releases based upon 2025.1 that are applicable to the affected models) will be the final firmware release permitted to be programmed into the affected models.

Guess I should plan on replacing my 7000 with an 8000 soon. Oh well, I'm actually surprised at how long these older radios have been supported on the newer firmware.

These radios came out in 2008. Let that sink in, 17 years is a long time to support enhancements in a product. Apple doesn't even go that long. The last 6000 ANs rolled off the production line almost 10 years ago. I know, we got the last batch of "old milk" pushed to the front of the cooler.

Impact my end users a bit, have older APX6000's and having to tell them that some of their radios are ending upgrade/support, even though their newer radios are also APX6000's makes for some confusion. Have to sell it like a long running car model, where there were changes over time, even though it may be the same model all APX6000's but different vintage/variants.

Motorola has also had some issues with batteries and what works for their APX6/7/8xxx series radios as well. Had some users getting "Wrong Battery" indications as many batteries will physically fit, but will not be correct for the radio itself.

Thank you OP for sharing and spreading the news. (Some co-workers do not get Motorola Technical notices, they do not keep up on their account).

Support for the 6000AN ended in 2023, so you should've already had that conversation with them long ago. This firmware announcement has minimal impact on these older models. If bugs haven't been worked out of models this old by now, they likely never would've been fixed anyway.
