This is a posting to provide a warning of an issue with the latest update for the eNIFOG for Android users. I have had this app working on the same phone for several years with no problems.
I recently updated eNIFOG app on my Android, and after the update was installed, I was unable to open the app. When I clicked on the icon, it kept loading and loading. This update is the January 2020 (hardcopy version 1.6.1A).
Emailed FEMA Tech Support, and after a couple of emails (relatively quickly) over the course of an afternoon, it was determined that I have an older Android and this app will not work on it.
Here is what they stated:
"From our MobApp Lead, it turns out that your version of Android is too old and will not support operations of the new eNIFOG and probably many other “modern” mobile apps. Not sure if you are having other MobApp issues.
The new eNIFOG is developed for only 2 versions-back in operations – we know it works on Androids are v7.x, v8.x, v9.x or 10.x now but not your v4.x."
I asked if I could access an older version, and here is their reply:
"On the app store, unfortunately it only allows us to distribute one single version, the latest version of the eNIFOG app. One of the reasons the Android app store forced us to move forward with later Android OS levels, is because they believe the older Android OS’s are security prone."
So, now I am no longer able to access this useful app from my phone.
Oh well, just wanted to give a heads up, so be wary when updating the FEMA apps.
