Entering letters and numbers

I have a 1040 which I have used for 3 years and it works fine. But recently I cannot enter letters or numbers when trying to name a frequency. All I get is beeps. What happened and how do I fix this problem? Thanks

Are you using the 2-digit codes?

• Key Lock - Lock the scanner’s keys to help prevent accidentally changing the scanner’s programming. ?
• and that is all i can find about it.

Are you able to turn scan lists on and off? If not, the keypad lock is on. You will get a message on the bottom line saying "Key Locked" when you press a button if keypad lock is on. Press the FUNC button and then the button to its immediate right with the key symbol above it to toggle the keypad lock on and off.
