This reminds me of the CNY system. Way back in the day the local GE shop had EDACS tied into the county lowband system. Each agency paid $5.00 per subscriber to use that system. Someagencies had alot of the radios. When talk of P25 came around certain invensted parties were in no way happy about this. I'm sure the issue here is SAIA loosing all this income at some point. In the end the county is finally doing what they talked about 20 years ago. Its about time.

I presume your location has some influence on your experience.

If you are comparing EDACS low band to P25 vs an established UHF CapMax system, trying to draw a parallel, I'm not sure where to start. Remember, there has to be a viable reason to spend the capital, change directions, if you're happy with the service, support, you're currently getting. It's fun playing radio.

How long do u think all the country police and fire departments will join the system in like timeframe
All? Likely never, but it will be 3 yrs before the system is built out to support legitimate traffic full time. There are many moving parts to this, stumbling blocks yet to be discovered, as there is in any large scale build out. Licensing alone will take a year to get past Canada. I would think Sheriff, corrections, would be first fleet on the system, followed by Buffalo PD. After that your guess is as good as mine.

The biggest question I have with this system is,Who is going to support it inside the County. The people making these decisions have very little idea what it takes to support a system of this size. Currently the staff of 2 people who support the county radio system will not be able to keep up with just basic subscriber support let alone the networking/codeplug/key management aspects of a complex digital system.

That’s very true. I just like the idea of finally having one system for all the agencies in the county I mean currently it almost makes me not want to listen to Erie County stuff because it’s the only county I know of in New York State that has 14 different dispatching locations for the fire and police for the villages and towns
