If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Error when updating P7100 - Failure in Writing Radio Code

Hello everyone,

I encountered an error when trying to update the P7100 to a newer DSP code version. The radio is currently J2R18H09/F6R06M05, and I’m trying to update it to J2R18H09/F9R06N05. However, when I select the new files and click "Program," windows about Serial I/O quickly flash, and within 2 seconds, an error window appears: "Failure in Writing Radio Code."

RPM-file-write.PNG

RPM-file-write-2.PNG

RPM-file-write-3.PNG

Interestingly, the Radio Code version does not change, and it is the same in the radio as it should be after the upgrade.

I’ve tried using the J2R18H09 file with both BIN and BIZ extensions from different sources, but this hasn’t changed anything. For reference, here are the MD5 checksums of the files:

Code:
8d3e68b6a4141670877e9f093049e19d *J2R18H09.biz
8c2759c7047bdc3b97d6a991f48e2093 *J2R18H09.bin
c71b8e0fb7ff218fa0fea7d1ed4f2b3f *F9R06N05.dsp

Moreover, I cannot bypass writing the J2R18H09 file. The software insists on specifying the path for it as well. It is not possible to upload only the F9R06N05.dsp file, as the program checks this.

I am using RPM 14C05, but I can use any version of RPM or RPM2 since I have a purchased copy. So there are no problems there.

This radio is an 800 Dir FM with 2 MB of Flash. It originally came from the factory as J2R11B01/F5R06H01.

Normal programming works fine without errors. The cable is factory-made, and the COM port is hardware-based (soldered onto the PC board). Entering programming mode is done by holding the PTT while turning on the radio (for about 7 seconds). At this time, nothing is displayed on the screen, or only the channel mode symbol "A" is visible at the bottom center of the screen.

Does anyone have any ideas? This error has never been discussed on forums, and Google knows nothing about it either.

JR11B01 Does not play well with 14C05. You need to find older version of RPM to upgrade radio to J2R18H09. I had that problem switching radios from EDACS to P25. JR11B01 is old code. After reading more into what you are writing that you have J2R18H09 Loaded I would try loading F7 code then go back to F9. Some early versions of radios did not like F9. When we got the code from Harris, they said to use it in our M7100 mobiles only.
