SDS100/SDS200: ESN CHECKSUM

went into settings then see scanner information see the SN: and then -131 entered the number after the 38326 on the first line then put the 131 on the second line keep getting the checksum you entered is not valid sds 100 trying to get dmr upgrade

nice, but when i go to enter the esn, i only get 11 characters when i need 12. Hence I keep getting an error on uniden site.

Is this on the my.uniden.com website? The electronic serial number (ESN) is 14 characters. The checksum is 3 characters. When you first register the scanner, you enter the serial number under the battery inside the scanner. The serial number is 12 characters with the 4th being a Z. Double check the number of characters pre-entered when you enter the ESN. To view the ESN and checksum on scanner: Press the MENU button. Scroll to Settings. Press E. Scroll to See Scanner Information. Press E. Scroll to Firmware Version. Press E. ESN and checksum are on bottom line. Press AVOID to exit menus.

Yes, my.uniden, to complicate it further, it keeps rejecting the last 3 checksum characters. I wouldnt post here if I hadnt searched the forums.ive changed browsers, cleared whatever I could clear in said browsers, its only giving me 11 characters.

Sorry, wasnt aware the 200 had an external battery compartment?

yessir. just confused about the 11 character thing, saw somewhere that the first few were pre entered.
When you start the registration process, you first enter the scanner serial number on the back of the scanner. That is 12 characters. The ESN is entered later. The ESN is 14 characters. The checksum is 3 characters. I believe that is shows pre-entered characters above where you enter the remainder of the ESN. It's been a while since I registered a new scanner. Be careful when entering the checksum. It uses hexadecimal numbers (Integers 0 thru 9 and letters A thru F. It is very easy to confuse the number 8 with the letter B.

thanks, it takes the esn, however keeps coming back with invalid checksum. is there something I'm missing? only so many ways to enter a 3 digit checksum, i can see it plain as day on the scanner, those 3 digits come back invalid. changed th 'B' to '8',same result

If either one of the ESN or checksum are entered incorrectly, you will get the checksum invalid message. Check to see that the ESN is entered correctly as well as the checksum.

Did you see the pre-entered numbers? How many were there?
I'm at work now, 5 anyway,obviously 38426? I wouldn't be posting any of this if I had checked and rechecked. Not sure if it has to be a certain number of characters or not. But I can tell you it's damn frustrating and needlessly complicated.

I should add that its a completely different error, it did tell me several times the esn was bad,now it's only saying the checksum is bad.

As noted the Serial Number has the Z in it and is displayed on a sticker on the back of the SDS200.
As noted the ESN Number is show on the SDS200 Screen.
Numbers are 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Letters are A B C D E F
The Checksum can be 1 E 1
It is not a very hard system as I have over 40 Unidens Registered to me.
I would double check that you entered the correct SERIAL NUMBER from the back of the SDS200 if both are not correct you will get an error.

Yes, I'm grateful for the answers here, support had answered yesterday after I was gone to work. effectively said what you just did. Things like this always bother me until I find out the reasons. Anyway it does work with the Z, just isn't very clear. Since there isn't much worth listening to in the way of nxdn in this area, I added the waterfall. Many thanks.
