Wondering about edacs trunker and esk. do you HAVE to have a slicer for them to work. or can the normal discrim tap do it also...

I use EWTrnk3.83 with a discriminator tap to the sound card - no slicer.

The file is in the Trunker yahoogroup. I misstated the file name/version number; it's 3.84a-something.

Coincidentally, it's the only trunker program that is working for me under Ubuntu linux. Unitrunker won't, and the others don't seem to like sound input on my system.

i have the etrunk, etrnk48, ewdump and ewdump47 files. now what do i have to do

I don't believe any of the DOS trunker programs support soundcard use, so a slicer is the only option.

You have to have a discriminator tap, whether using a soundcard or a slicer.

If you are willing to open up your radio and wire a discriminator tap into it, yes, the 396 will work with Etrunker.

Any radio will need a discriminator tap to work with Etrunker or other trunker-type programs. This involves wiring into the circuitry to get a separate audio feed from before the voice filtering stage.
