laugh

oh yes all the time. You can always tell when they mess up dispatching calls out. Or doing something silly.

Maybe I should record all the giggles and make a blooper tape.

What makes me angry is they sound like they are laughing about what ever the emergency is they are calling out.

No need to get angry, you don't know what is going on in the room, and many calls to 911 are far from emergencies. What does this have to do with scanning anyway? Sounds like a wasteland thread misplaced. Also, dispatchers are human.

sometimes they probably are, keep in mind not all calls are emergencys, i'd say a small percentage are actual emergencies, stolen bikes and property damage reports are certainly not emergencies (just 2 examples)

I have to admit I've done it, and/or been the cause of my colleagues doing it. Not long ago, I was dispatching Fire and the EMS dispatcher seated back to back with me chose just that moment to sneeze very loudly, and it was all I could do to keep myself professional for the rest of the voice-out:

Me: "9 Pump, respond Delta for a.."
EMS: "WAAACHOOO!!!"
Me: "...sick person.."

Matthew is apparently obsessed with dispatchers, notably pointing out what he feels are their shortcomings or flaws. Then there was that lame video he made and posted to youtube (which, not surprisingly, he deleted quickly), claiming it was something he "found", only to be outed by his own failure to remember NOT to put his blog URL at the end of the video. That was priceless. Love how he puts in his profile that he's taking the dispatcher class/test...I'm sure a know-it-all MMQB like him will be welcomed with open arms by his future coworkers. I just hope some of them are members here and read his crap and figure out who he is if he does get OTJ one day. Guys like this usually don't last long in the emergency services, they get called on their BS and weeded out pretty quickly.

You should try to learn from guys like me instead of thinking you already know everything. Going around publicly trashing your local dispatchers on this board, as you have a bad habit of doing, is no way to start out in the profession. I don't really care "who" you are, so knock that crap off, as you have no shot at intimidating me with any tough guy act. As you admitted, you're young, so try doing less talking/trashing and more listening/learning. The threads and posts you've made are hardly portraying you as someone genuinely interested in learning what "issues and stories are out there". They come across as those from a young guy who thinks he already has all the answers, and will walk in that radio room like he's God's gift, and wonder how they managed to survive before they were graced with his presence. Don't be that guy.

I had a partner who used to love to try and make the dispatchers loose it on the radio, he was a pretty good comedian who usually could get even the most stoic of dispatchers.

I'm here a lot
Yes, the last time was a police call for criminal nuisance , she laughed giving this description:

... report of a homeless man defecating on a lawn. (pause , muffled laughter)
Described as a male, white , appears to be in his 60's wearing a ball cap with a Superman logo , black hoodie , gray pants pushing a shopping cart full of bottles (she unkeys while laughing)

Once one of the other dispatchers got me to curse on the PD radio while I was giving out a call - he took the antenna of his phone and stuck it in my ear.... I dont think I could count up the number of times I've started laughing in the middle of giving out a call....

the road officer "what kind of call."

"oh there's a man down and his penis is hanging out of his pant's."

turn's to me and say's "did i just say that over the radio ?."

damn near needed ems at hq. i was laughing so hard.
