Alex,

Try downloading .net 2.0 directly from Microsoft on another computer, put it on a memory stick, and then run it on the thin client. I think i read somewhere that the HP version and the Microsoft version is different, and that the microsoft version will work. For some reason, you cannot download the file directly from microsoft on the thin client, you'll need to do it from a regular computer.

Has anyone tried using Trunk88 on these, more specifically the HP 5720? I would love to get one of these, and use it to control my scanner so i let it do its thing and not have my laptop on all the time.

Trunk88 is a Dos program i think, think the 5710 should work
the 5710 is much less then the 5720 on ebay

put a link for trunk88 and i will try it for you,if program goes on then it will work
i have the 5710 and 5720 will try it on both as i am still playing with them to see which
scanners program will work with it for audio and text

i use Teamspeak, simpleCast, ProScan
out of the 3 the only one i cant get to work is Proscan

But it comes with Linux.
I don't know of any scanner software or streaming software that runs on Linux.

Flash memory limitation on writes

Just a caution: when I was researching thin clients with XPE for work I discovered that flash memory has a limit on the number of writes before it goes belly-up. So turn off logging and any other operations and tasks that might write to the flash frequently. You might find your thin client turns anorexic on you and dies.

OK, I'm trying not to be too much of a pain, but I have a decision to make.
I need to get 512meg to replace my 256meg.

Once I get the 512, it will be empty.
How do I get to the HP site to install XPe?
Will 512meg be enough to run XPe, Windows Encoder, DirectX, Logmein, and a USB WIFI device?

I have a 1gig USB flash drive now...but installing these extras is just not working. And, I have to remove the drive whenever the client is rebooted.
I'd like a set-up to where everything loads up and runs upon reboot...(at least Logmein)

I bought this 5710 for the sole purpose of streaming a scanner, without using something that makes noise or gets hot.

Heck, I'd even spend the money to get that mini-laptop thing that was suggested earlier...if they have one that runs XP.

Thanks for all the info provided and still to come. PM's welcome.

Hi NREMT-B, STEMS

I downloaded the link you gave me and it does work on the HP 5710 and 5720
the program open when you hit the start up exe for the program
it does not add the files to window as other programs do

the M Audio will be in tuesday, i thought i will have a problem with it as it needs XP
so i loaded the program that comes with the audio card my other card in my other computer
and loaded up fine, still cant load up ProScan the net feame 2.0 is the problem as i ask Bob
on his site

You can get a used Eee pc with XP loaded in it already from Ebay/Craigs List ~ $180 (same goes for other netbooks). Also might want to consider ITX micros and minis although a built up system might end up costing way more.

Just something else to consider.

Framework .NET 2.0 / ProScan for XPE

I have been successful in my effort to run ProScan on a Thin Client. Here are instructions that I used which work perfectly on my HP t5710 (1.2GHz/512MB). Only need to follow steps 1 thru 4, then you just install ProScan and should be all set. You may need to install Windows Installer 3.1 before loading the .Net Framework 2.0 package.

ProScan

1.Boot your thin client and disable the flash disk write protection. On HP, this is done by right-clicking the padlock icon and disabling EWF and then rebooting

Quesstion...by right-clicking the padlock icon....were is this

i did everything but could not find "by right-clicking the padlock icon"

thinking about puting my Icon 1000 on it as i have all my Procan on my other computers

the Icom would give me 9 on line lol

Alex,

You need to log in as Administrator on the thin client first. To do this, go to start, then log off. While clicking on 'Log Off', press and hold the shift key on the keyboard, keep holding until you get the login screen. The username is: administrator, the password is: Administrator (yes, the password is case sensitive, so make sure A is capitalized).

Thanks,

Mike
