Folks I have recieved many diffrent answers to this question so here goes. When you update the library or database does IT automatically update the systems, talk groups,frequencies...ect in your scanner or is this like Sentinel where you have do the updates then apply them to your lists? Like a jerk on both scanners I thought by doing the weekly updates and writing them to the scanner I was updating my data.

For trunk systems, I believe it will update the frequencies in the systems/sites and (I think) alpha tags/labels for any channels and talkgroups you have programmed. It will not add talkgroups to your scanlists because it has idea how you have your scanlists configured.

EzScan updates

When you update the library, it updates the library. Meaning if you want to add something new to your scan lists it's available from the updated library. So you can choose it.

It will not update the scan lists. To do that is a bit of a pain. You'll need to import from your newly downloaded library. I don't have EzScan at work so I'll try from memory.

It's either the last or second to last tab from the right on the bottom of the Ez Scan screen. Pick the state, the system you want to import, the tg's the frequencies (You can leave off the freqs if you know nothing changed) Once you choose import it will ask what scan list to import to. Uncheck the default scan list 1, leave no scan list checked. Import. Then go into your system you just imported and choose the TG tab. At the far right top of that screen double click on the header scan list, it will sort by scan list. The new TG's you just imported will have no scan list picked so those are the ones you will have to assign a scan list, LED color and whatever other changes you need.

You'll also want to remember to configure the import to either update your alpha tags or not. If you choose different alpha tags than RR assigns you better choose not to update the alpha tags or you'll not be happy once the import is complete. You will have to do this for every V Folder too if you have that system in multiple V Folders.

If you only update the library you will never scan any new talk groups. They must be imported into your scan lists.

Sentinel presents a little different issue. You can just apply the updates to your favorites, however if you have any different labeling of the TG's It will add the same TG's with the RR labeling. So if you don't want the clutter you'll have to go through each favorite and sort TG's by the numbers and delete the dups. I don't know why they don't change it to look at the numbers and not the alpha tags but that's another story. So for a computerized database to make life easier, they do to an extent. To keep everything up to date, not so much.

There is an option to update items that currently exist in your configuration. It's one of the prompts after you update the library files. Les is correct however that it will not add anything to the configuration you have built. That needs to be done through an import process.

There's also an option in the import screen to update existing data. That's handy when you use V-Scanners and want to update those as well.

A statewide, trunked,, P25, Phase 2 system is being built where I live. To hear new TGs added, I have to delete the system and import it again?
