By Modena Fire Company #1 April 26, 2010 On Monday evening at 1711 the Modena Fire Company was alerted to two different accidents accident one was reported to be at Modena Road and Park Avenue reported serious, and accident two was reported at Modena Road and Penn Avenue both in South Coatesville Borough.

Chief Perine was first to arrive on scene at accident one with a pick up truck on its roof with a utility pole snapped in half and wires down. Further investigation confirmed the entrapment of one subject who was unconscious. Deputy Chief Dowlin was first on scene at accident two with one car into a tree one still inside. Chief Perine assumed Modena Road Command advising the two accidents were one in the same although 500 plus yards apart.

Fortunately PECO crews had been traveling through the area and stopped and quickly secured the utilities before any fire apparatus arrived. Tac 37 and crew of 5 arrived and quickly stabilized the car as assisting personnel set up the Hurst tools and started extrication. EMS on scene quickly determined that a rapid extrication would be needed due to the severe injuries of the subject. Modena and Westwood crews removed the passenger side door from the truck. The subject was removed 6 minutes after crews arrived on scene, however had succumbed to the traumatic injuries sustained from the collision. The operator of the second vehicle was fortunately able to walk away from the accident uninjured.

Rescue 44 was released at 1740 as Modena crews remained on scene with the road closed throughout the accident investigation. Tac 37, Ambulance 37-2, and Deputy Chief Dowlin cleared the scene and responded to another reported accident at West Chester Road and South Bailey Road in East Fallowfield Township.

Chief Perine and fire police cleared the scene at 1854

The thoughts and prayers of the Modena Fire Company go out to the victim's family.
