You Know its Linda funny--The fcc is Only worried about rolling out 5g--They dont give 2 S*^ts about us (the Amateurs)-
How much additional income taxes are you willing to pay to have the FCC that you envision?

My Question is why cant the fcc allocate an area from 144.1 to 146.0 just for digital use ---Problem Solved--146.050 to 148 for repeated Use
So, you would just kick all of the weak signal SSB, satellite, APRS, packet, and repeater users out of 144.1 to 146.0? I don't see that happening.

As has been said, frequency coordination is a local problem. Let the frequency coordinators deal with any real interference between analog and digital repeaters.

In this case, the petitioner's request was unrealistic. In the FCC's response to the petitioner, they said "Specifically, you request that the rule be amended to separate analog and digital repeaters either geographically (by prohibiting digital repeaters within 250 car miles of an existing analog repeater system) or spectrally (by designating specific frequency segments for digital repeaters and limiting their power to ten watts)."

We normally use 120 miles between co-channel coordinations as a "rule of thumb", so his request for 250 miles would result in many, many repeaters being de-coordinated by FCC mandate. Furthermore, his request to limit digital repeaters to 10 watts output is just plain nuts. Why should digital repeaters have restrictions placed on them that aren't placed on analog repeaters?

You can read the FCC's short and sweet response to the petitioner here: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-18-567A1.pdf

... They were in such a rush for an auction to get rid of users in vhf just for the cell companies to take--it Could have been given to the digital users--Good Thought Anyway !!

4MHz is of little value to the phone companies. You get, at best 2x 2MHz slices. Not very useful.

vhf is from 144.100 to 148---1 Post on here is stating 146 to 148 for repeaters kc spacing

???

Why?

If people would not be so whiny, and learn how to use PL/DPL on analogue repeaters the problem would go away.

Further to that, the whole original petition reeks of an old man, stuck in the 80’s with an IC-2at with no PL.

The FCC made the correct ruling.

The 250 ’driving miles’ is absurd. It was poorly thought out, and even more absurd was the 10w erp limit for digital machines.

There are no cell companies on VHF. The lowest cellular band in the US is, as of now, about 600 MHz.
VHF makes a poor band for the cell companies. Antennas and filtering are too large for starters.
