• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi everyone

do anyone know about how long it’s taking the FCC to process new IG licenses? I have had an application pending now for 7 weeks.

Haven't done one recently, but it was not a quick process even before COVID. It was a little over a month, if I recall.

You might also want to look at 90.159, which covers operating under conditional authority.

Has your frequency gone through coordination and been assigned yet? On the PW side, Once APCO coordinates a frequency, it goes up for review by the other coordinators ~ 5 to 7 days, and once the FCC has been sent the application and frequency, it is pretty much one or two days. If you have the application number you should be able to see what is going on on line at FCC. For some services there may be review for border issues etc.

I was curious, so I did a search for IG service new license applications granted in the "last 1 week" (6–13 September). I got 194 results:
  • 57 had receipt dates of 7–10 September
  • 24 had receipt dates of 30 August – 3 September
  • 6 had receipt dates of 23–26 August
  • 5 had receipt dates of 17–19 August
  • 3 had a receipt date of 12 August
  • 3 had receipt dates of 2–6 August
  • 78 had receipt dates of 26–30 July
  • 17 had receipt dates of 22–23 July
  • 1 had a receipt date of 9 July
Disclaimer: I don't know how representative these are; ULS searches have historically been difficult and inconsistent.

Is it a nationwide application? Many frequencies?

Look up the application details on line. There should be transactions and administrative activities. It could be off line for review by Canada or have some technical review required. Otherwise you could call FCC on phone.

I assume your payment method cleared??

I would call them and simply ask why the delay. Probably they are backed up with other commercial apps and waivers from cell companies in response to the hurricane.

If you need to operate right away, I agree with alcahuete regarding § 90.159 Temporary and conditional permits. See subpart (c) and (e).

Make sure your documents are in order and if challenged (highly unlikely), cite the rule.

This is about the same timeframe as all the other licenses I have done as well.

The shortest timeframe I have ever had was from 11/17 to 12/09 and that was for a denial. It was denied due to a glitch in the ULS System, in which my personal FRN was used instead of the corporate FRN, even though the application was from the Corporate FRN login. The FCC admitted things were wonky on their end, refunded my filing fees, etc., so no harm no foul. But what it also showed was that at the time, itinerant frequencies were NOT being granted to individuals.

Thats good to know. I have an LLC but had intended to add it to my personal FRN. So you are saying that is not accepted?

I don't know how they treat it anymore, honestly. My denial was in 2018. My intent all along was to use the corporation's FRN, but due to an error on their end, it used my personal one somehow, since my name and FRN were also attached to the application. It was something weird with the stupid Java they used on the application. The denial letter stated something to the effect of there being no valid justification for use of the frequencies, and no justification for the number of frequencies requested.

When I emailed the FCC asking for clarification, the tech noticed that my personal FRN was used by mistake, and that's why the application was denied. They returned my fee, told me to resubmit the application and it was accepted without any difficulty. Literally the only change was using the corporation FRN.
