• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Hey dispatchers:

So I was listening to the scanner at work the other night and a CPD unit was trying to find another back on 4A. Unsuccessful, he asked the dispatcher "who's on this channel?", and she replied "177, 32, and 48" (or whatever units were back there ATT).

Do the dispatch consoles actively show which units/radios are on which channels, or is that just the dispatcher keeping track of who's been marking on 4A recently? Thanks - just curious,

Thats what I figured, as the FOP gets antsy at the first hint of any 'big brother' watching over... like with the GPS units in the cruisers. It would be pretty cool though if it showed which radios were monitoring which channels.
