What's the name of the chirp heard at the end of transmissions during fireground operations? Can it be decoded?

Also and it's very rare but sometimes I hear mdc1200 during fireground operations, are these specialty units or is it a radio that's programmed incorrectly?

That tone you're hearing is TPS (Tactical Public Safety) It's a p25 data burts at the beginning or end of a analog voice transmission. it allows for their radios to have longer unit ID numbers. Its part of the Fireground Accountability system software that FDNY uses. The radios will only decode the data burst if someone hits their emergency button. The BC has a terminal in the truck that will display the unit ID's.

If you're hearing MDC it's probably a EMS radio.

Some of the mobile radios might have mdc instead of tps.
You can decode it with a Motorola radio with tps

I haven't had much luck decoding with a radio with TPS enabled. The research I've done led me to believe it could only be done when the emergency button has been pressed then the other radios will decode.

I have a whored out flashed xts5000 with the receive set enabled. I'm assuming the channel needs to be programmed on mixed mode? Ofcourse for recieve only.

Also an issue I stumbled across is that during a mix mode programmed personality, analog signals won't come through, Kinda odd.

I've had no trouble decoding the FDNY FG channels with TPS (on the direct channel, not the trunking system re-broadcast). It's definitely Motorola TPS.

The Fieldcom unit is usually the only one I see on the FG channels using MDC.

I haven't had the time to recheck my CPS but I'll let you guys know when I do. I'm pretty sure I have something screwed up.

Finally got a chance to look at my codeplug. So if I got this right, I need to do the following?

Under the Radio Wide > TPS
Emergency Alarm RX Indicator Type > "Alert & Display"
Voice TX End Tone Checkbox "unselected"
Conventional TPS UI > Audible Emergency Beacon "Disabled"
Conventional TPS UI > Emergency Retry Rate > Disabled
Emergency Call De-key Sidetone Checkbox "unselected"
Conventional TPS Signaling > PTT Transmission "Disabled"
Conventional TPS Signaling > Emergency PTT Transmission "Disabled"

Under Conventional > Conventional Personality
Rx Options > Receive Only Personality checkbox "checkmarked"
RX Options > unmute/mute type > "And unMute, Or Mute"
RX Options > RX Voice/Signal Type "Mixed Mode"
Advanced > Tactical Public Safety > TPS UI Enabled check box "checkmarked"

Anything else I should change? Also does the personality have to be on mixed mode or can it be non-astro?

Change transmit to astro then back to rx only

So under TX Options change it to Astro and I'll be all good? Also I noticed under my button functions that my front panel button with the computer logo is programmed to TPS. Does that toggle TPS on and off?
