tonight there is a LOT of traffic from Omaha and Charlie on Customs NET1 165.2375MHz (100Hz). Heard "Charlie" units on this and mentioned Jefferson and Blue Ridge sites. they then said they were going to test on "vla" once they had access to the remote console. soon after I heard them bring up another repeater on 155.475MHz (didn't catch a PL) which I had from a list somewhere as "Customs D8". very interesting. also heard them on 165.2375MHz call it "NET6"; might have been patched to NET1.

they then were going to test on JCMUTE1...probably got that wrong. scanning and search on two different radios and nothing heard.

EDIT: Received a PM from melneef who stated he was hearing traffic today on the WVIRP Jefferson Site on TG 1553 calling it JCMUT1

Just a note, on MT Fed Files CBP listing, Net 6 has the same output as Net 1:

165.2375 100.0 166.4375 100.0 NET 1
165.2375 100.0 166.4875 100.0 NET 6

Sounds like we now have an idea where some of their repeaters are located now.

They also have towers in DC, Baltimore, Martinsburg, Mt. Weather and somewhere south of Winchester.

EDIT: Add Harper's Ferry and Front Royal.

167.4125MHz P25

I can get some FBI analog traffic from DC at home and from time to time scan them. Yesterday, mixed in with distant analog traffic from DC are a few VERY strong sounding P25 recordings. Might be something else FBI related close by.

Don't know if you had seen this recent article about a new FBI comm tower to be built in Winchester area.

Decision on tower delayed - News

thanks, I hadn't read that before. I like "another government site 10 miles away, and that the link would be used for voice, data and video." Wonder who that is? 10 miles by air or land? The freq I listed with the phone patch has been in use for some time and I have it listed as FAA but that doesn't mean that's what it is.

I know "AT&T"(?) has a underground facility in the Middletown, VA area. That site is within the 10 mile radius of the address they gave as it is actually in the Stephen City / Kernstown area.

If you mean the site at I-81 and I-66, didn't AT&T sell that off? There is another operation in that facility now.

Analog or P25???

I had this as P25 [before I got a NAC Scanner, so no NAC]
as Dulles Airport

P25, didn't catch a NAC. I'm pretty sure it's FAA as well. Just funny they encrypt everything else but the phone patch. They don't seem to be using it but just playing with it. Must be a new toy.

What the eye sees and what you don't see may not be one in the same.

For many, many years, Mt Weather, and at least 2 other facilities, in the 3 state radius area, were only marked by a mailbox along the road which read "The Phone Company". Nothing else except those nice, badge shaped, red white and blue, unlabeled "NO TRESSPASSING" signs very much like the ones marked US Government. (I wonder if they are related?)

The thing I found most interesting though was from the air, what appears to be concrete ventilator shaft covers, with the old "ma bell" logos molded into them. Related? Got me, but they are still there. Some are just a little more in public view.

Like a magician's act, they want you to watch the one hand and you need to be watching the other one.

Thanks. I've been looking for the first site again. I found it a long time ago when we were building our house. One of the lines listed and mapped out actually runs through a back corner of our property.

Could be FBI's voice, (ancillary) data and video? I have read that due to DOJ spectrum relocation, a new microwave transmission system is in the works. Frequency bands are:

(GHz)
L-Band 1.755 to 1.85
S-Band 2.2 to 2.4
C-Band 4.4 to 5.0
X-Band 8.1 to 8.5

FBI Chicago Division fixed wing aircraft transmit color and FLIR video via microwave point to point and point to multipoint. Remote airborne video can be viewed at the Chicago Field Office. Happened two weeks ago during kidnapping and bank robbery surveillances.
