Nac decoders

I tried both the audio and discriminator. With both, after I select the sound card, it just sets there with three big zeros on it, either polarity.

did you select the sound card source on the KnacK display? Mine is compacted to a point where I cannot see there are multiple selections.

knack

I have only one choice; default input. After I select that, the program shows it's running.

With kNACk, I found that I had to play with with the input volume levels to get it to decode properly (otherwise I got nothing). Once I got that figured out it works reliably.

I have used it via discriminator tap on a Yaesu FT-8800 and that was my experience as well. If the input volume level was too low, I had zeros in the display.

Your master site
going to sound like a stupid question but how do you find the NAC codes?
With an appropriate scanner such as a GRE500/600, RadioShack 106, Uniden 396/996XT, software such as kNACk, or professional two-way test equipment such as a Motorola or IFR service monitor.

NAC to CTCSS

Here's something I found on the subject...
From the TG-001 P25 Radio Systems Training Guide
Daniels Electronics - Home Page
Chapter 3: P25 Practical Applications 27

CTCSS to NAC Conversion
Early TIA documents specifi ed a formula for converting analog CTCSS tones and DCS codes to specific NAC codes. Those documents have since been removed and the selection of NAC codes has been left
to the user. Some government agencies have defi ned a conversion table for their own use for translating CTCSS to NAC codes (eg. State of California and others).
Shown below is the early TIA conversion table from CTCSS to NAC codes. These codes were determined by taking the CTCSS frequency and multiplying it by ten, then converting the integer result
to a hexadecimal number.
