Here in NYC, I have a fed frequency of 171.69 (or 171.6875 or something close) plugged in to my scanner which I thought was FBI. It's 100% P25 encrypted. I just bought a Radio Shack Pro-106 (with a NAC search function) and just started seeing the NAC code of 9C5 for transmissions on this frequency. Thus not FBI. Anyone know what Fed agency is using that NAC code?

Doug

I wish I could help. If I still lived up there I would be all over it! I will keep my eye open for that NAC here in FL.

I just finished one of my "special V files" for "bag-n-tag" searching on my new GRE PRO197. I am about to post a new thread on this. I tested it and it works great! This programming allows you to rip through the G Bands looking for P25 only. Then when it hits on an active P25 freq it sounds a quick chirp and shows the NAC. Delay is set to 10 seconds after the last transmission and the NAC displays the whole time. Each 1 MHz section is put into a different list so you can narrow down to certain sections of interest. More on my new thread...

First New P25 Search Hit

OK...I got a new one...

165.3125 NAC $293

I was using my search file today and got my first new P25 hit. The scanner found it several times and did not lock on any frequencies that might be paired with this one. Each time it was a fairly strong encrypted signal with 4 solid bars like a fixed transmitter. Sounded like one way traffic because there was no reply. Heard it several different times today. I have some old notes from two sources that say this freq could be used by the Coast Guard. I never heard it used in the past on analog. I am on the treasure coast of SE FL.

Anyone have any info on this one?

293 is the default code and anybody could be using it. US DOT HQ in DC uses it, it's used at a nearby FEMA location and it's used on several TSA/FAA frequencies at IAD.

Yes, I was thinking it was a default NAC. I hope they come out "in the clear" one day so I can get an idea of who it is. Maybe someone here in FL knows what this is. Time will tell.

Good intel, Mick, thanks. I will keep my ear on it and report back if I can confirm it.

I got my first listen in a long time of the USPS PI's. As expected, they went P25.

407.7250 MHz NAC 482

I was not able to spend too much time in the area, but got some other info.

USSS (same old freqs) NAC 001

More B of I:

167.7325 NAC 167
167.7625 NAC 167
168.7500 NAC 167

The new CG LMR VHF Non-Marine all seem to be $293
Boston uses CG-08 aka Net-108 aka CG-108 162.0500 Simplex with $293

Thanks, Bill. I was up near the CG station in Ft. Pierce today and got it full scale, so it would make sense. All encrypted so far, so I really can't tell other than the NAC and past reports on this freq. I put it in my regular scan list. At one time I got some count hits on 162.0500 PL 100.0 down here many years ago, but I never heard any actual QSO.

I really like this NAC code thing. Now if only GRE would mute the encryption. Maybe in the next firmware release? One can hope!

NAC 9C5 is a mystery.

I see it on at least two linked repeaters in the 170MHz range down here in the Philly area. Will need to dig out notes for the freqs.

Comms are present quite a bit and at any time of day...*always* encrypted.

Some sort of wide area network.

Maybe new HIDTA?

Let those imaginations wander....

So Ft Pierce is using CG-08 ?
Great, first confirmed report from FLA on the use of these LMR Channels.

The Radios as they were originally issued had multiple Zones.
Analog as the migration changed over to Narrow Band and P25
Analog DVP/DEs
and Digital, sometimes we do catch P25 w/o the "Coded" up here.

Yea, PL was great to mute DVP/DES in the Analog days

Faa?

Got two P25 hits on a band opening this morning. Both on known FAA freqs. In the clear "testing".

172.8500 NAC 293
172.9000 did not get the NAC

I'm not sure about your location but if you are near an airport that 172.9 most probably is TSA.

I might be showing my age here. I always thought these were FAA freqs. That is how they used to be listed. Did something change?

I have seen the reports of NAC 001, 002 on these...so when I heard them testing (actually saying test testing) with NAC 293 it was a surprise.

On another note, I picked up a strong local USPS P25 repeater near my home on 407.7750 NAC 482. That makes two on what used to be input PO freqs in this section of the band with the same NAC. I see a pattern developing, and it must have been a total reorg with them. They are an aggressive LE agency that used to be good to listen to. Just as good as any of the big boys. I might start a thread on them to see what others are hearing.

The search files I made are really paying off. Now I need another scanner so I can dedicate one for searching and one for listening.

Up here in the COLD New England Region the USPS Inspectors/Police moved off those channels and has been using Solely 409.9375R P25 50% Enc NAC-482

I have seen reports from outside New England on the same frequency for WI, PA, NJ

Last I heard, the 406-420 portion of spectrum is being transitioned for repeaters to follow the +9mhz offset for inputs. This could account for you now hearing a repeater output on 407.7750 even though historically that wasn't the case.

Roger that, guys ~

It's all starting to fall into place, but what a lot of changes going on these days. That makes the hobby exciting again! :)

So Bill, looks like the NAC matches. Cool! I'll give that freq a try. I remember they had a very structured system with a lot of channels. I would expect them to have no less today. searching is a must. I wish I could spring for another GRE. :(

Phil,

Yes, something did.

Back when the Department of Homeland Security was created, the Transportation Security Administration was moved under their control and a standard channel plan was assigned to them for use nationwide.

F1 172.150 ($001)
F2 172.150 ($002)
F3 172.150 ($003)
F4 172.150 ($004)

F5 172.900 ($002)

F6 169.300 ($009)

F7 172.900R ($001)
F8 172.900R ($ ? )
F9 172.900R ($ ? )
F10 172.900S
F11 172.900S

F12 166.4625 (103.5) DHS/Treasury common
F13 166.4625 ($ ? )

Updates always welcome...

I'll check my old database, but I had many more freqs than that. Using different NACs like they do on one freq is not such a good idea IYAM. Now I'm too far north to get MIA or FLIA (whatever it is now called). Even PBIA is a stretch. I depend on tropo to hear that stuff from up here.

166.4625 has been around forever. It used to be no PL, then USC used 100.0 PL, and now it is a mix of P25 and analog. I think the BATFE is using P25 on it. Who else? I have not heard the P25 since I got the GRE, so I'm hunting down that NAC. It's just a mater of time. Same with the BATFE freqs. USC has no P25 I can hear around in this area. Still analog.

Well, I was just at PDX last night with the scanner. I figured out that NAC 003 was used at checkpoint for the A/B/C concourse while NAC 001 was used for the D/E concourse. While I did not hear NAC 002 in use, I am going to guess that is being used for the checkpoint for incoming international passengers.
