I had my radio done today. The only changes on my end are ...a extra zone which has all the old ITAC/ICALL channels, and they had to eliminate our CSP SPX simplex channel since I guess it was in the middle of the new band. Overall it was painless and Motorola assured me that the rash would go away soon

Hey Troop, hook a cable to that puppy and suck the info. out of it. I'm real surprised to see no new frequency info. being posted to the DTRS site. Or is it the case that the new control channel freqs. won't be activated until all radios are re-programmed?

The reason there is no new information in the database is because there is no new information for the database. It's going to be awhile before they start changing the sites over. First step is to get all the field radios reprogrammed. For an entire state that does not happen overnight. Neither does the conversion of sites covering an entire state.

Also the "Hook a cable" method has prompted mother M to devise a new security measure that prevents reading a codeplug by unauthorized means. Word is that this is being implemented during the rebanding/reflashing programming of radios used in the Colorado system.

That method is not available because of security concerns and system upgrades, tower information and control channel information will be posted when it's available which may be months.

ROTFL!

Looks like you have added yet another phrase to our language. First there was "Road Rash" and now we have "Radio re-programming Rash", or to simplify it just plain "Radio Rash"? {CHORTLE!} Hopefully `this too shall pass' and it won't become an epidemic warranting `Quarantine' of the concerned individuals. BTW, have you tried using some "Gold Bond Powder" on it? {SNICKER!}

Thanks, Troop!

Yea guys, I was half kidding when I said hook a cable to it. No doubt the programmers would/will be required to password protect the new codeplugs. Sure miss the good ole' days when everyone wasn't so damned paranoid and you could call your local SO or PD and ask for their frequencies. Today, they are liable to send a SWAT team to your house!

The fun begins in September!

A general breakdown of the 3 step plan as posted on the CCNC site today 7/3

The major rebanding steps are:

Step 1- (FIRST TOUCH) May 2007 - Aug. 2007 Re-program each subscriber radio with new frequencies and retain old frequencies.

Step 2-Sep. 2007 - Dec. 2007 Retune each site to new frequencies.

Step 3-(SECOND TOUCH) Jan. 2008 - May 2008 Remove old frequencies from each subscriber radio.

Thanks Phil for info, read the part where they said "During retuning there will be times when a site is down resulting in some outages, however announcement will be made prior to these outages." So that should tell us if we don't hear anything, it retuned on that site.

Better start saving up for the fuel money now, we're going to have to log all the sites again this fall. !!

I wonder if they will do more changes than just moving the 866-869 freqs on a site 15 Mhz down? I guess wait and see.

Start what next week?

Radio re-programming for the re-banding.

In addition, on a related note, Durango PD won't start using their new DTRS TGs in earnest until their re-programming is done in the end of July. Word is they are very pleased with the coverage on the handhelds and two mobiles they have been testing.

This morning at the opening session of APCO Conference in Baltimore, MRT reports the following statement from FCC:
"Earlier in the morning Derek Poarch, chief of the FCC's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, spoke briefly about the effort to reconfigure the 800 MHz airwaves, an effort that is woefully behind schedule, with no licensees rebanded thus far and the FCC-mandated deadline less than 11 months away. Nevertheless, Poarch said the June 2008 deadline remains "an important date," and that public-safety licensees shouldn't count on getting an extension. "

Could the FCC be that behind the ball that they don't know re banding has started?

Just read on CCNINC the during the first half of 2008 you'll have to bring in your radio to remove the old ITAC/ICall freqencys. This was the lastest on 28 Aug. http://www.ccncinc.org/
