Id just use a RTL SDR dongle, that's how I got started in scanning, I have an SDS200 and a unication G5 now but its mostly a doorstop for my days now, most good stuff is DE in Savannah. After losing my sight I have no real interest in the commercial world anymore, just HAM and CW now for me.

Nothing lucky about it. It's a tool for the job. Believe it or not, I don't spend any time listening to PS radio unless it's job related. Like someone who works at a diner, you get sick of the smell even if it's a 5 star Michelin chef cooking everyday.
I can definitely understand that, working for the counties shop you do get sick of it over time.. might not seem like it but you do. Unless you've worked in it people just don't get it I guess..
