I'm a bit of a newbie, I'm not a huge scanner/radio user... sorry in advance if my questions are a little stupid, lol.

I have a little 50 channel Uniden Bearcat (BC80XLT) mobile I use while storm watching, and when I can't be on my computer, I need to reprogram it since a lot of the frequencies have changed with Findlay going to MARCS. I have looked through some of the threads on here, and have referenced some of the scanner sites I have bookmarked, but can't seem to find an updated list of the Frequencies in my area. I live in the middle of Findlay, near the University, so I can pick up quite a bit of traffic whenever I turn it on, I'm just not sure if what I have programed is accurate anymore, and I need the new Findlay Police/Fire dispatch info since they aren't trunked anymore.

Here's a list of my current programming... let me know if these are still correct, and any changes or any I should add (I'm gonna add the Findlay SKYWARN 147.1500 once I redo everything, since I am a SKYWARN Spotter).

So I'm guessing I'm gonna need to pick up a new scanner? Any suggestions for a good mobile around $100-$150? I've had the bearcat for a while, so I don't mind investing in a new one. Honestly, I don't know much about scanner specifics, just how to program them in and listen, lol. What specs should I be looking for to pick up MARCS and all the frequencies around the area? I like the ability to listen to life flight and some other aviation traffic once in a while, is there any specific range I need to look for to pick up that kind of traffic?

Generally, you won't be able to touch a digital scanner for less than $400, unless you catch a really good sale at Radio Shack.

That being said, the GRE PSR-600 (Pro-197 is the Radio Shack equivalent) would be an excellent choice. The Uniden BCD996T is also a good choice, although I personally prefer the GRE models for their far superior digital audio quality and programming options.

I'm mainly looking for a handheld. I seen the GRE PSR-300 on a site that's close to my price range, It has trunking, and re banding capabilities. I'm not sure if it would pick up MARCS, cause I don't know what specs too look for when it comes to that system, lol.

I probably won't be upgrading till after the first of the year anyways, just getting ideas on what to look for to cover my area and listening preferences. If I find a good deal around x-mas time I may spring for one a bit early, but for now just gathering research.

The PSR-300 will not work on MARCS. If your looking for a handheld you could go with the GRE PSR-500, Radio Shack Pro-106 or Pro-96, Uniden BCD396T or BCD396XT.

You will most likely be spending around $500 for any of these new.

OK, thanks for the info. I think I have the specs nailed down after looking at the WIKI and comparing some stuff there, I will definitely keep an eye on those models prices and try to get a deal on one when I can. I don't mind the investment, its just a matter of when I can afford to do it, lol. Until then I'll just try to keep listening online, and download some stuff to my laptop for mobile use.

You will most likely find THE best price on Black Friday which
would be November 27 at Radio Shack on the Pro-106. In the
past they have ran unannounced sales on their scanners among other
items for a very limited time period on that day (for example 6 to 11 AM only).
A little preparedness could net you a great price on a digital scanner.
