FIPS codes for ontario

Anyone in northern ontario using FIPS codes.

Do we have big enough storms to even program this in our scanners??

I programed the FIPS codes into my BC250D, will I ever hear something??

when the winter storms come you should get warnings , down south through the summer thunderstorms fips was very active this season

the only problem I have found is that they tend to send the fips out only once, I f you are like me I dont have a dedicated reciever but do dial over to weather radio when conditions look bad. I contacted Enviorment Canada about this and was told that they do not wish top create panic by issuing more than one precautionary warning.

Im sure that when I get stuck in white out conditions I will apreciate this policy.

i use my scanner for weather warnings but it limits the radio to that use only i wish fips could operate in the back ground like close call do not disturb

So, because you don't have a dedicated receiver, the rest of us would have to put up with multiple alerts going out constantly for the same warning?

That would cause people to start ignoring the repetitive alerts and miss an upgraded warning.

Actually updated warnings would be great, infact I find myself agreeing with you on multiple alerts about the exact same thing. Perhaps Enviorment Canada can put a bit more effort into updating alert info as it becomes available. I was just venting a bit about the snotty attitude I recieved when I contacted Enviorment Canada about the FIPS system and criteria used to decide an alert.

BTW I never travel anywhere without the proper equipment and materials ( I even carry a mini inflatable raft)

On a related issue, does anyone make a receiver that will do weather alerts on conventional broadcast FM stations (88-108MHz)?

For example, the WXR station in Parry Sound is on 88.9, and as a result none of the radios I have found can be set-up to do an alert if there is a weather warning in the area.

Short of listening all the time, is there an option?

Just go to google and type CLC codes for ontario canada and you will find it all there.

CLC is the canadian word I guess for FIPS.
