I am on the San Francisco Peninsula. Many years ago I was an police/fire dispatcher. We had just converted our fire departments ring down system from Plectron to Motorola QuickCall II. Our county EMS didnt use QCII, they had a system that sounded like 3 sets of 3 DTMF tones in quick sequence. (the first 3 tones alerted the EMS unit, the second 3 tones alerted the hospital and the last 3 tones opened our EMS channel in our comm center. Now, most of our fire departments are using this "DTMF" form of signaling and are moving away from the QCII. Is there an official name to this "new" signalling format? And what are the chances that Uniden will make a firmware update that will allow the 396XT or 996XT to decode this format as they currently decode QC II? Thanks

It was most likely groups of DTMF tones. I use DTMF for about everything now as it goes out quickly and is not subject to some of the limitations of quick call.
