Our local guy in NKY never had a digital radio in his car. He had a VHF that I believe just had local stuff in it. I’ve never known, or heard them to be on a state system up here.

The KYEM frequencies are digital and on VHF in the 130s. If he's talking to the Frankfort EOC, as in "Frankfort, FM112" he is on the state system.

That being said, it's been known for local folks to provide some of the state folks with surplus radios.

Who else uses this system other than EMA and national guard? I’ve never heard a peep on it up here.
Civil Air Patrol used to use it frequently, before they had there repeater in Louisville Repaired. Since then, I haven't heard hardly a peep on the system. I don't even keep it in a radio to monitor anymore because there was never and traffic.

I bumped into a guy with the state fire marshal's office today. He said while his vehicle is equipped with the KYEM radio, it is not used. Cell phones, etc., is their communications means.

Thanks for the info chief. I saw who I believed to be our new local Deputy Fire Marshal for NKY about a week ago, there wasn't even any radio antennas on his car so I figured that was a no.

Does anyone know if any other state agencies use that system? I know our EMA guys all have DMARCS radios in their cars but i've never known them to actually use them for anything. I have the local DMARCS repeater in my scanner but never hear a thing.
