To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I am trying to program my fire pager to accept Tone A 1153.2 and Tone B 1122.8 but when programming the pager the program is telling me that these two tones are invalid. Does anyone know any compatible tones too those I have listed above?

All help appreciated and thank you

It would help if we knew what brand and model pager you are trying to program, what software you're using, etc. More information required, please.

By the way, those are not standard tones. Try 1153.4 and 1122.5 instead, those are the actual Motorola QCII tones.

a two tone decoder gave me values for the second tone of tone A 1200 and Tone B 1137. Should I change these tone to a standard Motorola tone? If so, what do you recommend?

OK, The pager just took the values of the Motorola tones of 1153.4 and 1122.5.

1137.0 is a non-standard Reach tone, and unfortunately there's no Motorola tone close enough to it where it would decode properly. 1200.0 is also non-standard, you can try 1201.0 instead, which is a Federal tone.

Thank you very much for all of your help. The 1200 and 1137 was taken from a decoder. Not sure how accurate the decoder is.

Here are the closest standard tones to 1137.0 and 1200.0. As you can see, the Motorola tone are quite a ways off, way too far to have any chance at being decoded. You should probably check with US Alert to see if the pager is hard coded to only accept Motorola QCII tones. If so, you're probably out of luck.

1122.5 190 Motorola QCII
1130.0 P14 Plectron
1132.5 G46 GE
1137.0 R36 Reach
1147.5 G47 GE
1153.4 191 Motorola QCII

1185.2 192 Motorola QCII
1190.0 B12 Bramco
1192.5 G50 GE
1201.0 F09 Federal
1207.5 G51 GE
1217.8 193 Motorola QCII

The decoder built into the Uniden 396/996 scanners can be off by about 4%. The higher the tone frequency, the more error is possible.

Questions:

Ask your resident Geek what tones are being transmitted from the base station. In all probability they are standard Moto Qc-II format tones. The Midian chart (see above post) is a valuable took for figuring out what is standard and what is not.

Your software should be happier with the QC-II tones and all will probably slide right in if you are hitting the nail exactly on the head.
