A fire pager is a small, single or double frequency radio reciever. It is used by fire departments to alert members as to when and where to respond. The squelch is opened by a set of bells and whistles that are coded to a specific frequency, each department has a different set of tones.

They are small, cost more than some radios, and always go off at the wrong time (good thing I don't carry one anymore).

Are you saying the Minitor V is small? You might as well attach a brick to your belt.

It's certainly a lot smaller than the Minitor that I used to carry. Now that was a brick.

Never had one, and from the sounds of the quality, would not carry one. I come from the time of the Min 1, sometimes in doing testing I would carry two :D

I still have a Minitor I sitting in my den. And it still works better than my V did.

I have had them all I,II,III,IV,V but I reverted back to a Minitor II.

My fire department had a demo pager from SwissPhone (RE629) which in a side by side comparison next to the Minitor V blew it away in size, weight, sensitivity and audio quality. Anyone who is unhappy with the direction the Minitor line has gone should take a look at them.
