Firmware VS versus 796-806MHz

Hello can someone email me the Firmware versions for this scanner 1.x thru 1.8 and tell me what is available on the missing segment.... And which one restores this segment.

None of the firmware updates will restore those frequencies. It is due to an inter-mod issue. See note number 1 which directly follows the frequency coverage chart. Note number 2 adds a little to what is going on. At the beginning of the Wiki entry it talks about what is on those missing freqs. Here is the link.

Pro-106 - The RadioReference Wiki

If you wish to ask other questions on the missing frequencies you might want to post them here so as not to hijack this thread dealing with the latest firmware update.

The first link tells what I have already read elsewhere.. That the Intermod excuse is FALSE...

Coppied from the Wiki
1 = 796-806 Mhz is blocked due to inter-mod issues. See this thread for more information. < False information.

2 = This is the story they are giving out but there are no intermod issues with any other scanner that monitors this frequency range. The reason the 796-806 section is blocked is due to Radio Shack / GRE agreeing to block it in the scanner at the request of a government agency. This has been verified by a well known scanner software company, a scanner distributor as well as a district manager for Radio Shack

So again my question what is the truth about the missing freqs... Why would they care if there was intermod.. its a receiver and u can lock out any freq that is a birdie...

Thanks

That is the freqs that the black helicopters use. Don't say anything about it.

No offense, but I read this in another thread - fact is they blocked the frequencies, for whatever reason. Done, end of story. This thread is about the firmware update and not missing freqs. I don't mean to be flaming but I'm really not big on this big govt conspiracy to block a few frequencies from my scanner. So unless you can connect the missing freqs with who actually killed JFK, lets just let sleeping dogs lie ok?
Sorry if anyone gets bent or offended by this post, it's just that I read this in another thread that went on and on until it was closed by the mods and I don't want to see this thread get shut down as it deals with a firmware update.

Thanks,
Joe

I will also pass on the update. Nothing I need. However how about opening up the 700 mhz band and the 72 mhz band?

It's not possible to monitor input frequencies on the Pro-106 (700 mhz)
It's also not possible to monitor 72 mhz frequencies.

An option to block out the 861 - 899 MHZ would be nice too. (altho there are some areas that still have not rebanded)

Pro-106 firmware updates via cloning

qwik question regarding Pro-106 firmware upgrades... my friend bought a 106 last week... he needed help programming it, as its complicated for him, he lives near me, so he wanted the same freq's that I currently have in my 106...

I cloned his 106 to mine using PSRedit-500 software... he checked his welcome screen, pressed number 3 key, and it displays the same Updated versions that I have installed... did the cloning process carry over the DSP and CPU firmware updates?? I guess his 106 is up to date, he needs nothing more. Didn't know it worked that way, but thats great !!

If I am wrong, please let me know, but it seems he now has an updated exact clone as mine including the most recent upgrades to firmware :)

Kevin, his must have came with same upgrade as yours. Cloning only sends current scanner filesys (working memory) to target radio. V-Scanner and firmware are unaffected using clone

Regarding the "missing frequencies"...

Here's what I saw on a GRE ticket:
The frequencies had to be removed to address a regulatory issue with the radios.

Fortunately this part of the 700 MHz band is used for repeater inputs, so losing these
frequencies should not be a major impact for most users, at least we hope not. The
only folks who will miss them are those who are interested in monitoring the
repeater input frequencies, and this is of little use for most users since the range of
transmissions on the input side is very limited.

And, from some other communications that I've seen:
The frequencies in this part of the 700 MHz public safety band are mobile inputs to repeaters. From FCC.GOV:

"The two narrowband segments are 769-775 MHz (Channels 1 – 960) for base operations and 799-805 MHz (Channels 961-1920) for mobile operations. Each narrowband segment is divided into 960 channels, with each channel having a size of 6.25 kHz."

The only thing that can be found here is mobile transmissions into conventional or trunked repeater stations. Any simplex operation would be confined to the lower segment, e.g., "channels 1-960". Simplex would not be permitted on the input frequencies. In a Motorola radio, it is not even possible to program the 799-805 MHz frequencies into the receive mode of a radio (I just tried it to be sure).

In other words, yes the frequencies are blocked, but nobody will miss any traffic that can't be found on the downlink side of a conventional repeater or trunked radio system, or simplex on the output frequencies.

In this months Popular Communications it lists the freqys for the ILL-Digital Starcom 700/800 State System, the freqys left out of the 1.9 firmware are the "mobile extender" inputs......

1.6 (August 2008), not 1.9.

EDIT: but yes - they're repeater inputs. A scanner is typically programmed with outputs. And, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I've heard that not even Mot radios can be programmed to receive on these frequencies.

A uniden 780xlt will receive the 72 mhz. segment.

I still have em in my Prro197 bought in August 09 & in my prs 500 bought December of 2009 both with 1.8 Firmware????

Really? That would be strange.

Can you go into TUNE mode and enter 797.000000MHz ?

(The frequency range in question is 797.000000 - 805.996875 MHz)

programing

you have to hold the PGM button on the scanner and turn it on at the same time then its in PGM mode you only have 3-5 sec to run the test from the update most time's the com is 3 it worked for me
