Firmware (CPU 1.9) for Pro-106/197

The Radio Shack Models were introduced some time after the GRE models. I believe the Radio Shack radios had version 1.6 from the factory installed. GRE and Radio Shack models do not share firmware upgrades.

I don't have my radio at work but doesn't page 98 and 99 of the manual tell you how to restore factory defaults? I don't remember if it rolls back to the factory 1.6 CPU or not. As long as you have the radio backed up why not give it a try?

Again I think 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 are the only firmware updates for that radio.

Hello can someone email me the Firmware versions for this scanner 1.x thru 1.8 and tell me what is available on the missing segment.... And which one restores this segment.

There are two cpu updates 1.8 and 1.9 available on radio shack's site. One DSP update 1.4.
The first key must be pressed while the Welcome/Owner screen is being displayed when you turn on the radio.
Press 0, CLR to erase the DSP firmware version. This will restore the original factory DSP firmware version.
Check page 91 of the users manual for initializing your radio back to factory defaults

I tried and tried and tried to update to 1.8 instead of 1.9 based on some of the comments here, but nothing I did would allow me to do so. In frustration I decided to go ahead and install 1.9 and everything worked like a hose!

Do not know why I could not load 1.8, but that is just the way it is some days.

I appreciate the comments on here as I used some of the suggestions before giving up and trying v1.9.

I installed 1.9 on my pro-197 that I run mobile and I have since experienced two episodes of the scanner losing my sign-on message and scan bank selections. I use WIN500 to program the scanner and instead of the "Welcome to object oriented..." message that defaults when you turn the scanner on, I have a message with my name and phone number. The other quirk is that I start up the vehicle and the scanner does not come up scanning and the banks I had selected to scan are no longer enabled.

Even though the scanner lost my sign-on message, the channel/bank programming was still in place.

Luckily, I still had the 1.8 update on my computer so I have reverted back to that version. I hope that fixes this issue.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with firmware 1.9?

OK - how does one check the cpu firmware version of a Pro-197?

I am reading the manual and looked through the index and menu's description
pages and see nothing that describes a way to check your version, but I must
be missing it. TIA for any help......

I just ordered my scanner on Monday afternoon (the sale), it got here today. Specs:

uP App Ver:RF2.0
DSP AppVer:RF1.4
DSP VocVer:RF1.0

Maybe a downloadable update is coming for you guys.

This is the DSP version of your scanner. Read from the beginning of this sticky post to see what the 1.9 version adds to your scanner. I have left mine at 1.4 because, for me, there was no need to upgrade.
