To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Have an XG-100P thats a friends which apparently needs a firmware upgrade its running 4.3.11 according to the software.
Read somewhere that you can't just dump the latest version in you have to step it up to current versions wondering if this
is correct? Also wondering if anyone might have the firmware files so I can upgrade this radio?

I dont know about having to "step" it. I have never heard of that with a XG. However, I could be wrong. With a lower FW version I am willing to bet he is running RPM 10. If you upgrade to the latest, you will need RPM 14. R06T02 is the latest and from what I am told you will need RPM14.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Have RPM 14 it runs on that no problem just wondered if I needed to up it in steps? I read somewhere maybe here that was the process.

4.3.11 doesn't look like a valid firmware version unless it's *really* old. I would double check that. I've seen the odd 100P pop up with pre XGP firmware that can't be upgraded (or not easily at least). You should be looking for a firmware version of XGP R0xxxx.

It was original really old firmware in a radio that is mint looks like it was never used. Thanks all for the replies I got it upgraded and it’s working fine.

On older XG-100Ps you have to be careful with old hardware where the keypads can get intermittent. I look for hardware version R20 if possible and avoid anything before R13.

I think the OP has confused a burnapp version with firmware version.
By all means, the latest firmware for portable is XLPR06T02.
And use RPM 14 to upgrade. A few have upgraded from some of the earliest firmware, and done it in a single step
with no problems.
These are not like Motorola where you need a certain CPS and increment your upgrades.

Intermittant keypads are always hardware issues. Firmware won't fix that. some early firmware did have keypad and display issues,
but not intermittant.
One of the TSMs explains a fix.

And the keypad issue affects all hardware revisions of the XG-100P. It's the terrible keypad design of the front covers. It has nothing to do with the hardware revisions that you see on the radio information screen.

It may not matter but at least you know they are newer and may last a little longer before failing.

Yeah, it's possible a less used one might prolong the issue.

When one of mine went to L3HARRI$ for repair, they replaced the front cover with a new one and about 9 months later the keypad started becoming problematic. That one and another are newer revisions of the radio and both now have the keypad issues.

All are also loaded with the last revision of firmware.
