There has not been any firmware updates in a while. Is this because UPMan has been out Or they have everything fixed?

What scanner radio are you talking about if your talking about the SDS100 the conventional Discovery is broken and does not check to see if the frequencies it finds are new or not.

Somewhere monitoring the air.
Upman was the only one I've ever seen on here that released new firmware, and he is sick right now so I dont know if anyone else can or will give the sds line any new firmware but there definitely are still issues that could be addressed.

The 436/536 scanners have the same fault and as the code are pretty much the same in the SDS series then the SDS200 are probably also broken.

Previous models went long periods without firmware updates. The x36 line had only one firmware update in all of 2017...

Firmware updates haha, it's apparent Uniden America was UPMAN, and without him nothing is going to get fixed.
It makes me wonder what the guys that support Paul with the fixes have been doing while he has been on sick leave!
If you read this Paul please give us a thumbs up if you are on the mend OK Thanks

Without FW support for X36 and SDS scanners there will be no sales.
Who buys the new Uniden scanner without support when the SDS200 is still unfinished.
No USB port assignment, PC-IF, display and keybord backlight synchronization, keyboard lock.

You don't have to agree, but it's my opinion!

Maybe the firmware guys are working on the drivers for the as-yet-undocumented second USB port.

The who is all of us. How many of us bought the scanner and then learned of the issues it had. Right now I am using my GRE PSR-500 because it performs better than my 536. Too late to return the 536. But if I ever do buy a new scanner (unlikely), I will do my best to find its issues before I buy it..

I would be surprised if Uniden have even one guy dedicated to scanner work. Even Upman spent a lot of times doing other things than scanners.
Maybe they have a short meeting once a week to discuss if anything needs to be done to any scanner and if a couple of bugs needs to be fixed then a software guy spends an afternoon on them. There's not that much to do to a scanner when it has been developed that it requires a full time guy for it all year around. Upman was the guy who collected bug info and investigated what should be done and then booked a software guy to fix the issues. Maybe Upman spent one whole day of the week to come up with ideas for features and functions in both current and for future scanners. It's probably difficult to find anyone to replace him that have the same experiance and dedication and can be used in different departments and different positions within Uniden.

Difficult to say the least. If there is one person who has the vision, knowledge and technical skills, my vote would be for jonwienke.

And if you look under his avatar, it says "More Info Coming Soon!"

Weird. I don't have any issues with my SDS radios.

That isn't related to a job offer from Uniden :(
But if they offered, I would be interested.

Man after reading this forum I am really regretting buying this expensive white elephant, the more I read this forum the more I am thinking eBay here I come but I hate to take such a loss on this thing because the selling prices on there so far are just a pittance to what I payed for it! This is truly my last Uniden product I will ever buy!

Remember the old saying- 'the squeaky wheel gets the grease'. In this case, you are far more likely to see negative comments from people with concerns rather than those that have not had major problems. Some of the most frequent 'negative' posters include a small group of those who have never owned the scanner they are griping about.

Just because you don't have a problem today does not mean that you will tomorrow. I have not had issues with the units most complaints center upon. That's not to denigrate those with a valid issue. Certainly there are some, but I seriously doubt that includes a large percentage of people who do own one or more Uniden scanners.

My big concern is the customer support failures I have been reading and the people that have sent in their scanners not just once but twice and it is still broken, I mean what is it they have a bunch of high school kids fixing scanners? I realize that most post are negative but still for what this thing cost you would think that they would have regular updates and better repair turn around! Maybe I am reading to much into it but with reading numerous post for the last hour I cannot come to any other conclusion!

ATM, none of my Uniden scanners require a firmware update. All operate satisfactorily in a challenging environment.

GRE Scanners were always Better than any other scanner. Ever since radio shack went out of business, scanners went down hill in my opinion. Whistler seems like they cant keep them going.
