First DXing Session At New House

I recently moved a few miles away tonite I got out a retractible wire and did my first DXing from the new place. I’m now in a second floor room instead of on the ground floor- was curious if that would make a difference. Well, it’s just one night, and one time of the day, but things seem pretty similar here to the old place.

One interesting thing tonite was my Tecsun PL-660 was doing better than my Qodosen DX-286. Usually it’s the other way around. I also have an XHData D-109WB, but that‘s still packed in a box.

I still need to put up my wire more permanently, I just had it draped around the room tonite, but so far, all good.

Propagation, at least around these parts, was poor for a bit, but things improved a lot yesterday. I also acquired a new radio, an Eton Elite Executive. They are on eBay lately for fire sale prices- $40-50 NIB.

Yesterday, things started to open up and I got some interesting catches with my radios, including a new one for me from Abu Dhabi. The Eton performed well, and more than held its own in side-by-side comparisons.

I found in a townhouse I once rented that bringing a Sony 6800W using the whip antenna downstairs while listening to it made the signal from Radio Australia go from enjoyable to detectable but unusable. It was an older building and DXing was very good upstairs so maybe the construction of your new place is hindering your reception.
