The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Thanks. Not that big of a deal really. If you do a proper install you don't really need the noise blanker.
Agreed for your vehicle but not accounting other noises external to your vehicle. I've seen them help on occasion with passing vehicles and even other types of noises.
I've always found the noise blanker to quiet things done a little more... the more quieter the radio the more it can be enjoyed.
I have one question don't you use magnet mount antennas? Have you ever checked the same vehicle with a MM vs permanent mount? If you haven't it's fine but just curious.

Regardless I agree. Especially in these new SDR type radios it helps even more. The Grant on the video had an excellent NB circuit. Ran one of those often till I switched to the 2510 years ago.

Ive Never drilled the hole .. so no experience with any differences between them...

and just me .. I'll never drill the hole as long as I can get a powerful mag mount and run the coax so I don't shut a door or window on it.

I agree
I know drill for antenna coaxial cable I drill hole so water drains outside about 10° off 90° . Today plastic pipe it best to install a 2x4 low voltage box inside then drill hole outside. Metal detection does work on plastic

True about external to vehicle sources. It could help with that. I'll probably see if I can re-enable it with a computer. I have a data cable for the QT60 that might work.

Yes i have a MM antenna. I was planning on solid mounting it. You've given me an idea. I think I'll wrap up this video on the Luiton as just a bench test overview, then do a separate video with it installed and do a range test with the MM vs solid mount antenna! Win win!

It's been a LOT of years but in the mid 90's we did some testing on a few of vehicles using either Wilson 1K or 5 k antenna's. We installed "a few" in cars, vans and pickups and normally we did have the opportunity to do some rough testing between the magnet mounts and then the same antenna permanently mounted. The distance in range honestly varied it seemed some it seemed depending on the vehicle but it wasn't necessarily a night and day difference. In most the permanent mount seemed to have less noise than the magnet mount. All radios were wired hot to the battery, and ground to the closest suitable ground point to the radio we could use. I wish now, I would have kept better records from that time, would have been interesting to see.

Your test will be interesting to I'm sure a lot of us here. Keep us posted!

Thanks just trying to get all the info out there.

I will indeed. I just looked for the programming software for the LT-310 but they don't offer it! :(

I don't think I'm going to do a permanent mount in the van. After messing with it on the bench I think I like my QT-60 Pro better. Having ready access to a SQ knob and RFG is a big plus.
So, I'll just do a temp mount and do some range/antenna testing. I'll test the QT-60 Pro with the two antennas while I'm at it. (y)

A lot of people including myself on occasion, have reasons they don't want to (or frankly even need to) drill holes in various vehicles. Frankly a lot of magnet mounts on top of a vehicle work better than some of the concoctions people come up with especially on pick up trucks for 27 MHz or other bands. Don't blame you one bit if that's your decision, if it works for you, then it's working for you!

Magnet mount + concoction = my favorite CB antenna ever. 👍

If it didn't look so insane, I'd be driving around with it today. Nice to use out in the pasture, though.

Aquário RP-70 Mini AM/FM/SSB

View attachment 193249
Approximately 5” x 1” x 4”

7W AM/FM & 15W SSB
Hi-Cut & NRC

M0OGY Review

Speculation began about a year ago.

— Would need an RM Italy KL503 or 203 amp to be competitive with radios currently available.
No WX

$399 has been bandied about. With shipping, tariff plus speaker, an amp & miscellaneous, this looks $$$$

— What I don’t at all care for is the required lack of front panel controls to adjust on the fly. In mobile it’s not feasible to look more than 1X, as 2X while at speed is pushing boundaries too hard. And, no, you don’t have more experience or are better at such than I.

I’d want RFG & SQ easily modified.

— As Skip starts to be less of a factor this isn’t as critical as it is today. From 0400 till past sunset one is changing this for maximum signal capture ahead of rural vs metro conditions. Pulling off the road becomes necessity.

Rumors of mini contenders exist. I see this one as the prototype against which they’ll be judged.

I’m not alone desiring detachable faceplate configuration as it solves the mount/space problem.

But . . . this one fits in the palm of the hand.

.
It nice set
But remember it does not comply with FCC on 11-meter for wattage.
I like FM and very good Antenna and exceeds the range I want (over 20 miles). Best to look at range you want.
It just one more thing I to all my life comply with building codes and some case exceeds the building code like building/manufacturing in Tornados Country. It is something you need to think about.

I hope this helps

Nice job!!

one of the better videos on it.

I just got done watching it .. I gave you a thumbs up
Couple things the reason the auto squelch didn't turn on was because you had it on side band. Auto Squelch is for AM/FM

on Many CB"s you turn on ANL and that will allow you to turn on NB .... Some CB"s if you push ANL then push it again you get NB. so by pressing that button you can get ANL NB both on... or one or the other.
you should have ANL and NB turned on.... it won't hurt to leave them on and they may help.

I would suggest you leave the High Cut on... again it can't hurt... and may help.. I turn it way up high.

The clarifier should just be set for receive ... Today's CB's are dead on frequencies so new CB's transmit perfectly... if you have it on transmit and receive and you might bump the knob or not have it turned straight up....and now your off frequency for everyone in the world...... having it on receive only... if someone sounds like micky mouse ( they may have an old CB that is off frequency. ) you can then tune them in with the Clarifier.... but having it on RX ...AND TX.... then every time you adjust the clarifier you are getting your CB off frequency.

the reason the sound didn't change when you were showing the clarifier was,.... the voice you we're hearing was on AM ..not on LSB .
Channel 6 is a terrible channel to show people as everyone on it has a massive high powered amp.. so you can't talk to any of them ( Unless you get a 1000 watt amp too ) but they will bleed through onto LSB USB and FM... and will over power your squelch.

it's a CB curtesy that SSB is only used from channel 35 to 40 .... as most people don't have SSB.. .. seeing so few people have SSB that most of the 40 channels are left on just AM ... and only 35-40 used for SSB ...when you use SSB it over powers the AM or FM channel making it so people with AM only radios can't use whatever channel you're talking to on SSB

Channel 37 and 38 LSB are for trying to make long distance contacts... so showing either of those channels on the video and calling out this is Hack-A-week 844 in The Appalachian Mountains anyone have a copy???... I bet you would have gotten someone to reply to you.

make sure you set the RFG back to as high as it goes so it will receive even weak signals from far away.... use the Squelch to get rid of the static.

with AI NR and NR on Transmit ... it will not allow you to whistle.... it cuts out the "weird back ground noise surrounding you" so if your not in a noisy area you don't need to have NR tX on......... a whistle is not a voice, so I bet NR TX killed the whistle..... so that may be why the watt meter didn't go up
I run my NR on receive only .... my shop and my pick-up truck both are VERY quiet... if it was a very noisy garage or I had a diesel engine purring away I might turn on NR Transmit to on.

PLEASE don't take this as a complaint or a knock.. it's not
REALLY it's not.... just trying to be helpful... many people don't know some of those things so it's always nice to put it out there for the newer people..... it was really a great video!

that really looks easy to use... did you have to modify it by doing something?

"HF" stands for high frequency. This refers to the radio's main operating band When the radio is set to "HF" mode, it makes you tune in the frequency.... VS changing channels ..... so if you wanted 26.965 in HF... you would have to turn the knob until you got to 26.965... in CB mode you can just turn it to channel 01

BR is the Brazil band

I thought the Squelch and volume on the same knob would be a pain... but it looks pretty simple one press for volume two presses for Squelch

again.. GREAT JOB, you really showed everything on it!!! that was extremely helpful... best video on it!!!
thanks for doing that... you sold me on it!

I have over 10 magnetic antenna's and test many of them and make videos on them... once I put the hole I can't swap out to the newest and greatest new mag mount antenna to try...

In most the permanent mount seemed to have less noise than the magnet mount.
That's been my experience too. When I converted my Larsen antenna from a mag-mount to a permanent NMO mount located in the same spot on my truck cab roof the noise-floor dropped significantly. As a bonus, my SWR curve also dropped.

Agreed, and less noise = equals better range for the receiving mobile station. At the time we were using MFJ 259 analyzers (don't judge at the time after a few loose solder joints they worked pretty well for what they were) and did notice both in most cases usually a little better match and even a bit wider 2:1 coverage.

Looking forward to @makerdino059 's testing to see what he finds for results.

@niceguy71 This morning I tried activating ANL and/or AINR along with NR which still showed no NB.
I've read posts elsewhere from users that have had the same thing happen after a RESET. I've told Luiton about it.
