I think it highly unlikely - notice I didn't say impossible - that you could hear them. I would bet that they'd be using marine VHF or even commercial VHF freqs (fishing fleets are notorious for not sticking to conventions....). They may use HF, but being so far north, propagation would be at best a difficult challenge. Fishing fleets have even been heard on the fixed HF service frequencies. Some illegally modify ham equipment to accomplish this.

A very tough catch, indeed. 73s Mike

Maybe in the next year or so, but almost certainly not before then. That discounts the possibilities of flares or solar wind, of course. We're still neck-deep in the low side of cycle 23.

Your best bet is to get onto the Utility DXers Forum on Yahoo, then do a search on Comsta Kodiak and see where folks have heard it in the past. You could also find their website - I wouldn't doubt that they have one - and see if they've posted schedules for any weather or SITORB transmissions, if they have any.

A toughie, no doubt about it. 73s Mike

Thank's...Been to Glen Burnee while our boat was at the CG Yard the summer of '80. Did a little water skiing and of course drank a lot of beer under the Francis S. Key bridge! Ha! Nice place. :)
