• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Quick question. I was in the middle of updating the programming on my radio when the vehicles ignition timed out and shut the radio off. Now when it powers up I get FL 01/90 then maintenance mode remote device and when I plug in the programming cable I get remote device. Does this mead I bricked my device?

FL 01/90 means that the head can't communicate with the brick and remote device means that the head is getting power but it's not talking to the brick. Although not ideal, it seems that something got messed up in that upgrade.

What does it mean what it says local device when I plug the programming cable in? Same thing? And there is nothing I can do otherwise?

Try pushing in the last known good codeplug via the rear 26-pin accessory connector unless your radio is a high-power model. Otherwise
try using the GCAI connector on the TIB. I also believe that you can use a serial programming cable attached to the TIB as well.

Does your computer recognize the radio as a comm port?

When attached to the brick on the remote head? When I connect to the brick I get a usb device not recognized and when I connect to the head it will give an error about the radio not being detected.

Would the 26 pin adapter be something like the HKN6172C?

That would be one option, the other would be to use the RS-232 serial version. If your XTL 5000 is configured with a remote mount control
head then try using the GCAI connector on the TIB instead of the connector on the control head. You can also build your own programing cable if you have the pins and crimp tool to add the appropriate conductors to an existing rear 26 ping cable that may be used to provide
external 12 VDC for ignition sense and so forth.

Definitely give pushing in a CP directly to the brick via GCAI and/or 26 pin. I have my doubts though and wouldn't hold my breath for any positive results. Its likely the radio won't acknowledge the PC. Based on what you have described, its almost a guaranteed bet you have bricked the radio and will need to seek either a more advanced repair resource or replacement. Lesson of the day, if you a programming in vehicles, actually start and idle the vehicle while programming, to prevent such time outs. Take it from someone who learned this lesson the hard way as well.

So after a few attempts I gave up. I did notice that the radio, despite not being used for most of the day and what I thought was off it was really really warm. Guessing that is a bad sign since the other radios I used for 8 hours straight doing an event already cooled off. The radio has since been pulled and will keep it as a reminder not to do it again. Though one would think that Motorola would put in a safeguard that if the radio has power and the ignition sense wire loses power, the radio and control head would not change state while being programmed. Or is this a feature and not a bug?

Thanks everyone for your help. I would have tried the RS232 method but I don't have the stuff to make a cable. Though I will still make one as it wouldn't hurt to have one lying around.

Yeah the safeguard was to update to APX radios. They changed the procedure so that it writes and verifies then reboot and makes changes.

Check your MyView or Motorola Solutions online account, the sync files for the O5 was up there last I checked
Don't have myview and my solutions account seems to be just a generic account. I even went as far as to register new accounts using my county email and no dice. Guessing that because I am not a dealer/partner I don't get access to that stuff.

It would be under Resource Center>Software>Astro 25 Portable and Mobile. I see it on our legacy MOL account, but we did have a subscription for Astro 25 Mobile and Portable CPS (even though it's no longer on there.)

I got a "you do not have access" message. Unless I navigated to the wrong area. Do you have a link to the resource center?

This is the mid power unit (50w). Worth a shot. Not like I can make the radio any deader!

Thanks for that. I actually need to build a service cable and was curious if it was straight RS-232 logic out the serial interfaces so I can make a rear USB for APX and serial for XTL.
