I pre programmed (with Sentinel) a Motorola Type 2 Smartnet I have been monitoring for years (Redding Public Safety, Redding, Ca.). I have had my fleet maps ALL set to 11. This gave me 5 digit TGID and worked well. When I loaded BCD536, the scanner would NOT stop on 5 digit TGID transmission. I was using a second scanner next to BCD536 to compare with. It would however stop on 700-5 with RPD transmissions (I had the ID Search function "on" for that department). After trial and error, I noticed that the Sentinel USA databse had RPD fleet maps set ALL at ZERO. SO I CHANGED ONLY MY FLEET MAPS TO ZERO, changed nothing else. Then BAM, the BCD536 was properly scanning/receiving my RPD trunked system. I am at a loss how the fleet maps had to be changed with two different scanners (same trunked system, same TGID) in order for me to scan effectively.

Fleet maps are only for Type I systems.

Ok....so when a system "rebands", does that change its type of system? Type 1 to Type 2? If not, I still find it odd that the fleet map I used (size 11) I had to change to Size 0 in order to get the new scanner to receive the User ID in the same 5 digit numbers I am used to seeing.

No. It changes it from a 800 standard band plan to a rebanded band plan.

Redding Public Safety is a Type II system, so all band plan entries need to be set to 0. If you set any of them to another value, the TGID format will be converted to a Type I format, which won't be correct for that system. Fleet map entries change how TGIDs are displayed. As you note, if you put in an incorrect fleet map, the TGIDs will have no easily discernible relation to the TGID format used on the system.

I do appreciate the responses, but I am not the "techy" guy like some of you are. All I know is that on my PRO-197, my fleet maps are set to "11" for this Motorola Type II Smartzone system AND I had to set the fleet maps to "0" on my BCD536 in order to receive the transmissions on the same channels (Patrol 1, investigations, etc). Still boggles my mind. I was only posting this in case others had the same "glitch" I did so they can see what their options are in programming their new scanner.

If that is truly the case, then the bug is in the PRO-197. Type 2 systems always use 0 for all fleet map entries on all other scanners.
