My apologies for not getting back here sooner... when not working and doing projects around the house, I have been busy experimenting and operating (aka, enjoying) the 5000A. The receiver is fantastic, and I am probably, more than a month later, not using it to its fullest capabilities. I never even opened the box until two days after arrival (my wife thinks that may be a sort of record in ham radio :lol: ). After setting it all up, I got on the air with little effort. Since then I replaced the Shure 585A (plus transformer) Unisphere A microphone with a Heil PR-781, and am loving it.
Digital modes are working quite well so far, and I continue to make contacts with very little effort. Transmit audio on SSB (have not yet tried AM) is, per the unsolicited reports, very good (yes, Bob Heil does some awesome stuff with audio gear), and I do not even have an Aphex unit in line
