I thought I was nuts when a medical helo's icon showed a fixed wing. My trial isn't over yet but for $10 I'll go ahead and pay.
I need to learn a lot about following, playback, saving etc. I wish the playback was slower. I hope to be able to check for traffic
helo's this afternoon if I'm not busy. This is all new to me and I'm just goofin' off since scanning has died in my area.
You will enjoy this. When ever I fly, my friend who picks me up at the airport can track my flight

When my daughter was travelling internationally prior to Covid, I could follow her flights between JFK and whatever her destination was in Europe. The resolution is so granular that you can literally watch the planes depart and land.

IF "ADSB-X" is ADSBexchange, that is not true--click on T in the square box (near the U for military.
I have to correct my earlier, I have been using ADSB Flight Tracker Lite, and pulling data from ADSB-X servers.

ADSB Exchange's website is not the most mobile friendly, it can clog a screen, so I use another party's program for viewing the data.

In the case here, the tail number has been recycled, and the former aircraft data is shown on FR24. (If you check the FAA's registry, that tail number shows data matching the helicopter.)

Is there a delay with Flightradar? I'm still learning but it seems like when I hear an aircraft and run to the computer I don't see anything near.

The delay is minimal. In years past, the FAA delayed the data by 5min. Now FAA data is without a delay, and it receives more accurate, timely, and complete data directly from the aircraft's ADS-B broadcast. Though many corporate aircraft and almost all military aircraft are blocked on FR24.

Not much military here and I'm probably doing something wrong. Not having much luck with playback either. Wish it could be slower.

It varies, and can be about two minutes delayed, but I typically see only a few seconds delay.
It seems to vary for me from Real Time to a few minutes with Flightradar24 being faster than FlightAware. This is going by having my house marked with location on and hearing or seeing the plane go over head.

$10 is no biggie but I'm not impressed. Just doesn't seem to be much can be done. If I follow a flight and go to another one I lose the information. Also I get a lot of incorrect information (see attachment).
Am I missing how to save previous flights, etc.?

I use the FR24 app when I am curious about a nearby aircraft, or wanting to know about a flight a friend or family is on.

They do show most LE helicopter traffic, but do not keep current with a lot of info. (A local news helicopter shows as a fixed-wing, on their site.)

The ADSB-X app is much better for military, as FR24 filters out most of those, as well as high altitude flights.

FR24 has better track history availability, as ADSB-X only tracks when you have that aircraft selected.

Why is ADSBX asking for (Enter the ICAO hex ID's here) ?

The only way to track seems like is if you have some info already. Bummer

Are you talking about an app that uses adsbexchange data or the main adsbexchange tracking page?

As for the main tracking page: ADS-B Exchange - tracking thousands of aircraft
You can search by tail number as well if our database has it (it's pretty decent but not perfect).
Now details on the left will open up if something was found.
If you want to look at for example two days ago or so, click the history and it should populate the details correctly.
Then you can click through the last 1 or 2 weeks, if you find a track it has flow enable K for track labels that give you altitude / speed and a timestamp for each point in the trace.

We are aware that this is not the most user friendly interface but if you are looking for history of a specific airframe it can display very detailed data.
Compared to the VRS that was running our tracking page a year ago we have a much more stable and responsive interface that only requires a fraction of resources to run server and client side.

Let's say you're curious about this: The Aviation Herald
The registration is JA787A, paste it in the search box and hit enter.
Open the history in the details and go back to the 20th, select the 3rd leg, this is the URL you get:

All you need to do is open the website and it starts tracking automatically, never asks for anything, if you want a different area just move the map, if you want just military click on the U button at the top. @wiedehopf has done an incredible job making this the most informative and accurate site out there. While a few errors do exist in aircraft types it isn't ADSBx fault, and usually gets corrected when reported.

Does ADS-B have subscription levels? It does seem the better of the two by far. I'm having trouble with the map layers etc. but that's because I have no idea of what I'm doing. Is there a tutorial?

No tutorial but lots of tips and tricks on the forums here follow @MtnBiker2005 he always posts great info about the site. As for subscription levels it is FREE, but they do encourage you to feed to the site or donate.

ADS-B is a protocol .... it's adsbexchange :)
No subscriptions (never say never but not anytime soon).

Try and hover over stuff on the globe page ... lots of stuff has tooltips.

I'm not addicted but trying to learn. On Flightradar24 when you click on a plane it shows the brand and a picture which is my favorite thing. This doesn't happen on ADS-B unless I'm missing something.
